PDFs fucking suck

And I would say adobe sucks too, were it not for photoshop. Personally I don't like that program either, but it seems to be popular.

If you have acrobat writer, delete it. NOW.

Learn rudimentary HTML. It can do everything PDFs do and more, without pissing off everyone who tries to access your document. It takes less effort to learn HTML than try to figure out how to operate some shitty adobe program that serves no purpose.

First of all, Adobe Reader 7.0 isn't that slow. Secondly, Preview FTW.

It's still pretty slow and gay.

The worst is probably inability to edit. I'm not going to spend a week on emule downloading some unreasonably massive program just so I can delete shitty pages out of pdfs. What really boggles the mind is how many people just said "uh... ok... I need this program so bad I'll just pay $300 without question." Dumbass corporate fucks propagating worthless shit rather than thinking for 10 minutes.

Thank you very much for the alternatives. I gave up on looking for alternatives for most things because 9 times out of 10 its some shitty fly by night program off cnet.com. It seems, not surprisingly, that the overwhelming suckiness of acrobat/pdf has caused a powerful countermovement to spring up. Hurrah!

At least when you open a PDF with any program it'll LOOK AND PRINT THE SAME FUCKING WAY NO NEED TO DICK AROUND WITH PAGE MARGINS. Try that with HTML not to mention EACH BROWSER out there has a certain quirks with the way they render HTML.

The point of PDF is that IT IS RENDERED AND PRINTED THE SAME WAY NO MATTER WHAT READER YOU USE, THAT'S WHY PDF THRIVES. At least the PDF standard is THAT a STANDARD. W3C is a useless body when it comes to making standard, they're more like suggestions not standards.

I don't understand how making text into a PNG can be a 'standard.' That's all it really is to your basic user.

Hopefully some day we'll have a government with even the smallest understanding of how computers work that will force widely used filetypes to open them.

You can also make your html then print it through PDF distiller and get your PDF that displays the same to anyone that has a PDF viewer regardless of platform, locale and installed fonts.  Try doing that with HTML.

ive got a macromedia proggy called flashpaper that allows you to turn just about anything you can print off into a pdf, and for viewing just get foxit. seriously, its so fast you wonder why adobe hasnt signed them on yet.
