Oh no, virus ;_;

Ok guys, I guess I fail at the internet.

On MSN (yes, I know, MSN is fail) one of my close friends sent me a message something like "hey, check out this pictures of us (some link to myspace)" I was actually expecting pictures from him so I clicked. I had to download some sort of file, and when it was complete, my MSN started sending out the same message containing the same link to all of my buddies who were online. I wasn't able to message them back myself.

So anyway, I'm running constant anti-virus programs, ad-aware, all of that crap. I'm not too skilled in computers and internet, as you may have already guessed, so I'm having trouble fixing the problem.

Does anyone know what sort of virus this is? Is it fairly wide-spread? Are there tutorials online that can help me get it off my system? What does it do besides control my MSN? How should I go about curing my computer?

i know whats wrong.... First the program will be running in the background. So Under processes ind the task manager look for a suspicious program which shouldnt be running (A famous one for this is "blockchecker.exe", but there are others.) Once the program has been found, end the process, search your system for the suspect file making sure you check hidden files and you can simply delete it when found.

I Can't do anymore for you without knowing anymore.

This is so common I can't believe your AV doesn't know how to fix it oO

He prolly using some shit like AVG. A dumbass "friend" on my MSN sent me that type of a virus too, because she got infected. AVG didn't detect the virus in it when I downloaded the file, altough it was obvious there was one. I could even hex edit the file without AVG caring about it. Only after I was disgusted with the performance and got another anti-virus was the file finally deleted without even asking me about it. God damn, some anti virus programs are retarded.

OP here - my anti-virus program is Zone Alarm. It's slightly outdated, and the only way to update it is to pay money. Should I upgrade it, or get a different service.

Also, thank you >>2, I'll try that right now!

Uhhh... OP here, again. I'm going to sound like a total noob (which I am, I've come to realize), but where can I find the task manager?

CTRL+ALT+DELETE MOTHERFUCKER.  FIRST TIME I CAN SAY THAT WITHOUT IT BEING A TRAP

Ok, I found task manager pretty quickly after I posted that. =P

I've got about 36 processes going on right now. One that seems suspicious is called "WZCSLDR2.exe" though it's not very large. When I try to end it, windows said "undesired results" may occur. I assume I'm not looking for anything under LOCAL SERVICE, NETWORK SERVICE, or SYSTEM. Right? Just my User Name.

Ok, I searched for "WZCSLDR2.exe" and two results came up. One was  a PF type file and the other was an application. I opened the containg folder the the application file and it contained a few files to do with Alpha Networks inc. MFC application. I have no idea what this is.

I'm not being harsh but the chances are if you had trouble finding the task manager then it's unlikely anyone can give you useful help that you can understand.  The best thing to do would be to turn the PC off and get someone who knows a fair bit about computers to have a look at it.

here's a trick most techs overlook (tho sometimes doesnt work)

-go to "run" from your start menu
-then type "msconfig"
-a new window will open up, there click on the tab that says "Startup"
-they'll be a list of programs,& you'll barely recognize them cause they got weird names there.
-uncheck everything (if you got anything vital running in the background like an anti virus, check the location of the file like C://windows/symantec/norton antivirus/etc/etc and leave the check mark on it)
-after you do that click "ok" or "apply" and restart your pc (or it'll ask you automatically if you want to restart, so click "restart")
-when your pc loads again it'll display a long message about the changes, just check mark the little box so it doesnt displays again and try your msn once more.

hope that works

also try shutting down that "WZCSLDR2.exe" with the taskmanager, it'll give you a warning but just proceed shut it down, wont do anything harmful to your pc. the REAL vital programs running cant be shut, so its not like your pc will die if you end that program

MsConfig is godly when you have to work your computer with a virus. But! You can find the process in MSConfig and disable it from being allowed to start. <3 Its hard to find the file though.

Don't change these.
