Generic PC help thread.

I'll make this short.

PC: Has computer parts.
Issue: Boot up is lagged, black screen after mobo screen, integrated nic fails.
Issue2: Figured it was ram, bought new ram, install ram, left "damaged" ram in, boot, it boots with about 2 seconds of black screen instead of 5 mins.
Issue3: Remove Ram "Damaged" doesn't boot at all, no-post beeps, nothing, dead. HDD spins, all the lights say "ON" but video card not sending any signal to the Monitor - Tried two diffrent monitors. No post beeps.
Issue4: Put "Damaged" ram back in, boots up as per-normal.
Issue5: WTF?

why would you think it's the RAM if the integrated NIC fails?

are your new ram and "damaged" ram different types?  do you have some kind of memory interleave option enabled in the BIOS?

what EXACTLY is the screen saying when your nic fails... do you get the windows xp logo (assuming that's your os)?

The nic just doesen't exist to windows. Simple, doesn't exist.
By types I assume you mean pinset, so no.
No to bios option so far as I know.

I get a black screen after the system does it's boot up checks, then the Xp logo boots up after about 5 minutes with just the "damaged" ram in.

With all four 512 sticks in, it takes about 4 seconds.

Pinset? What? Are they different brand/speed/latency? Are you trying to run RAM in dual channel that was  not certified to run dual channel on your motherboard? And like >>2 said, "why would you think it's the RAM if the integrated NIC fails?" You know what is cheaper than more RAM? A PCI nic. You can get one for like $15US.
I am unable to troubleshoot issue #5: "WTF?". It is not actionable.
Unfamiliar with a system called "the Xp logo".

The integrated NICs on those are problematic. 64 bit drivers for open source OSs are extremely buggy, using integrated firewall causes failures of various sorts.

are you sure you didn't void your Dell warranty by opening the case and fucking with it? I'm pretty sure the Dell EULA says that you void your warranty if you open the case while having a double-digit IQ

damaged ram will cause failed memory tests, not missing hardware.  it's not your ram.

is there a yellow question mark in your device manager?  if so, get your motherboard cd and (re)install the nic drivers from there.

the following can cause missing integrated hardware:
 - hardware disabled in BIOS (option such as "Enable Internal NIC" or something like that)
 - "Plug and Play OS" setting in BIOS set wrong (also try "Clear ESCD Configuration Data")
 - fucked up motherboard
 - DUDE YOUR GETTING A DELL

You figure, If I want to the extent of buying new ram, i'd have ran all the testes needed to ascertain that the problem was not the nic alone. Do us a favor, go back to /b/ faggots. If you're not going to read the thread don't post.

The mobo is an MSI, if that helps anyone who knows shit about computers. The last three posts just made me cringe in pain over the stupidity that comes when faggy /b/ tards aren't globally banned from all of 4chan.

Nice grammar; excellent punctuation.  You're the one who brought up pinset, which isn't even an "issue", seeing as how a DDR2 will not fit into a DDR memory slot and vice-versa. Like >>4 said, it's the brand/speed/latency that will create "issues".  Did you even bother to check what MSI recommends?

And >>6 is right about missing integrated hardware.  If you can't accept a device is dead and disable/replace it, don't bitch about it here.  PCI NICs are dirt cheap so cost isn't even an "issue", and neither should this.

I felt that informing us that it had PC parts instead of a dead rat with a car battery hooked up to it metlted onto a PCB was very help, BTW.

Oh, you mentioned that it was an MSI motherboard. Goodjob NOT mentioning the chipset, so, you know, we might know if it was an Nvidia NIC, Broadcom, Intel, or some other.

If it was a troll, then yeah, I think I got pwned. If not, I got pissed because OP has given virtually no info as to what his hardware is, aside from mentioning an MSI brand motherboard, went through troubleshooting steps that made NO sense, keeps babbling about RAM pinsets like we should care, and says "You figure, If I want to the extent of buying new ram, i'd have ran all the testes needed to ascertain that the problem was not the nic alone.", without mentioning what "testes" he actually did.
