Unicode character substitution?

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-13 3:32

I don't know when exactly this started but my browser no longer displays the "ಠ_ಠ" characters like they should be. They look like little squares with a japanese-like letter in the middle instead of the dotted circle with the curl at the top. I've cleaned out all the caches and erased every .plist file that has something to do with the fonts and OS but it still looks the same. I even re-applied the 10.4.6 combo updater but it did nothing. It happens in Safari(square thingy) and Firefox(question marks). I'll post a reference image on /g/ in a bit.

Mac OS X 10.4.6 w/ Safari (Version 2.0.3 (417.9.3))
All updates installed

Revised the image. It shows what Safari, Firefox, and Opera display.

I think I might be missing a font or something.

Opera sucks sure there's an ebuild for opera but it just get dropped to /opt, it's statically linked, and it's CLOSED SOURCE, which means that it is a BINARY package.
