Can't be. I don't use my CD drive for Halo (wink wink).
Plus, there are other games, like Jedi Knight 2 that do work, that use the CD drive.

- be sure you have latest version of directx installed (in before lol directx, etc.)
- be sure you have latest video drivers
- be sure you don't have an issue with program permissions (i.e., run in administrator mode)
- look in your task manager and see if there is any processes that could be interfering with your game
- reinstall game
- give more information; what are you doing in the game before it occurrs

Done, done, done, done, done, just starting it up.
Ok, now get Process Explorer from sysinternals.com and run it before you start the game.
- go to view -> lower pane view -> DLLs
- start your game
- while it is starting click on whatever process it is in process explorer to view it
- when it crashes, go to file -> save as -> save it somewhere
- open the text file it made and copypasta the bottom half of it (all the dll's) in this thread

Bump. Can anyone help me? Where's the guy that asked for the DLL info?

Perhaps try reinstalling the games? It seems as though they may be corrupt (or your OS corrupt) since something's causing misreferenced memory..

i have studied your dll list. it's a long shot, but here goes:
- de1765.tmp and df394b.tmp aren't supposed to be there. if they really did show up in your dll list, do a virus check.
- are you using a hacked or modified uxtheme.dll? try turning off visual themes (go to classic mode)
other than that nothing seems weird

Well, no viruses. And I just installed Windows XP, as I just built this tower, so no themes, just a desktop that I changed with Windows' Display Options.
And reinstalling the games was the first thing I tried, no luck.
Weird about those 2 files not supposed to be there though...
ok, try this:
start menu -> control panel -> system -> hardware -> device manager -> view -> resources by type -> memory and see if the addresses above fall into any of the memory ranges in use by devices.

how old is your system?
try some different drivers for your VGA and mobo. If that fails, move your RAM into a different slot or if you have a custom rig, lower the timing.
if that fails: nuke your OS and reinstall clean. This will isolate the problem, at least. Get a drive imaging program and save your current state so if it happens again you can go back.
this is just a generic error. I got it for everything I've listed as a problem - personal experience.

It's all brand new, except the video card. I'll try moving the RAM, but how do I adjust timing, never done that before.
I really don't want to do a full reinstall, just got this thing tweaked right...
Name:
Blk Mage2006-05-15 23:47
Ok, moved the RAM, didnt' work. BTW, the memory addresses change sometimes when I try to start it up. Could that be a symptom of a problem?

copy protection. >>1
Try using a nocd patch and seeing if that helps. (For halo, I couldn't tell if you were daemontoolsing it or just nocd cracked.)

No-CDs don't work. As for Daemon Tools, I find Game Drive works better and easier.

Bump. Anyone?

Memory timings are changed in BIOS settings, usually you'll be looking for "DRAM settings" or something similiar. Hope you know what RAM you got. You can try checking it on newegg, or use it's links to manufacturers' sites. Are you running your RAM in dual channel? If so, did you check that it was approved to run dual channel in your motherboard? If I run my cheap Rosewill ram in dual channel on my A7V mobo, it crashes games.

Can't change the timing settings. It's a Biostar K8M800 if anyone knows where the timing stiings are.
