Icon-free desktops?

I absolutely hate having any icons on my desktop. Is there a way to get rid of that damned nigh irremovable Recycle Bin icon or move it to, oh say, the Start Menu or Task Bar?

Feel free to flame me if I've missed some obvious way of doing so.

It's what most computer users called running a program or viewing a document. Nowadays it's "RIGHT CLICK WITH MOSUE TWICE TO MAKE IT COME UP."

We don't have high standards as far as education and vocabulary is concerned, it seems.
