Scuttling Playstation2

Name: Anonymous 2005-10-15 13:53

I'm getting kind of tired of my PS2. I rarely play any games on it these days and only really use it for watching DVDs. But, my computer can do that now. I don't want to just sell the thing off if it still has some use to me. So, what I was wondering is if there is a way to remove the motherboard, load an os onto it, and use it as a full-fledged pc. If the UN had to ban all sales of PS2s in Iraq for fear that Saddam could use it as a super-computer to hack the Pentagon, I want in on its processing power. You guys know of any way I could do this?

You can still get the official PS2 Linux.  It comes with a Hard Disk, but you will need a keyboard of your own.

Waste of time, if you ask me, though.  PS2's have two 300 MHz processors.  Using a ps2 for a desktop is a hassle to set up and use.

Give it to your neighbor's kid so he can play crash bandicoot and be a hero.

One 293 MHz processor, and no, performance is not measured in MHz.

Disgaea for the win.

Good luck finding it in your local stores, though.  Took me about 2 months to lay my hands on a still-celophaned copy earlier this year.  (I don't believe in ebay)

Performance is measured in flops or triangles. Even then, It's theoretical, and is hard to calculate an actual ceiling

There are still places that sell that title new. I was just at a Fry's Electric in Phoenix that had like, 8 copies on the shelf.

That's pretty cool, you've got a good store there.

The only store around here, anymore, is Gamestop, and none of them carried it.  I didn't find it 'til I discovered a Gamecrazy /Hollywood Video in the strip mall next town over.  They had one copy which I bought, and which has not yet been replaced on their shelf.

Being new to the area i was unaware there were multiple Fry's Electronics in the area. I'm in Scottsdale, so teh Tempe one is most likely closer.
