FTP Server

Name: Anonymous 2005-08-19 11:15

I need to have access to a few computers to get files and change directories and stuff like that. I have tried out RealVNC as an alternitive to using a ftp server but its very unresponsive.

So I am looking for some ftp server recomendations. Dosent matter if it is not free, but if it is it wouldent hut.

oops, should mention it has to run on windows 98 to XP and it should be hardly noticeable, as in it should minimize to the system tray.

ftpd

FileZilla is the best free one. Pretty sure it can run in the background though.

I tried a few lately, seems its not too common to have one that has the option for it to start when the computer does and minimize it to the system tray ><

Dunno about systray, but to make it start with your computer you put it in the Startup folder. That's kinda what that's there for.

Duh, but if its not minimizing when it starts I have to expect someone else to minimize it. Startup folder = not minimizing.

You suck. You presented two items in your wish-list:
  1) start when computer starts
  2) minimize to systray

I gave you a solution to 1), it's not my fault if you tried to apply it to 2) and got confused.

its not too often I have to call someone stupid in a thread where I ask for help, but... well you have too be pretty stupid. When it comes to making it start in the system tray sticking it in the startup folder has nothing to do with it. If you dont know what the startup folder does, it simply starts a program when the computer "starts up", making it minimize to the system tray is strictly somthing you set in the program its self.

Wtf I even explained very clearly that I wasn't talking about the systray and you repeated your earlier moronic whining anyway. Just stop posting.

I speak english not nonsense, I think your the one who should stop causing problems here.

posting a question as dumb as "duhr, I need an ftp thing for windows 98 that starts when the computer is turned on and minimizes to the systray go find me one" is very like someone who would have not known about or would have forgotten about the startup folder.

4chan is not your fucking legion of doom to find you l33t SkR1ptZ, go fucking use google

WTF, Filezilla does all that. And the server doesn't really show anything IIRC, it's the Filezilla console what you're seeing and you don't need it.

>>7
You can use a BAT script to START /m it (minimized).

Or since everything in the startup directory is suppose to be a shortcut anyhow, you can go into its shortcut properties and set it to run minimised.

But yes, I agree with >>10 as well.

Serv-U FTP.
Works with 98, 2k, XP, can also be used as a service in 2k/XP I think. But non-serviced it is systrayed when not in use.

I believe it autostarts, or I think there's an option for it too. If not you can always toss it in the startup folder or in the registry.

I used to use Serv-U, it's pretty decent.

I use Bulletproof FTP Server. It's pretty damn good, and it works on everything from Win95 to XP Pro. It launches on startup and minimizes to the tray if you tell it to.

It can be found in the usual places.

smartftp isn't bad but bulletproof is better

Don't change these.
