Anyways, you should consider you lucky if the clipboard even works half of the time. Don't ask for more; welcome to X-Windows again :) .

The problem is with Firefox here. I just want a "Clear" button when I right-click a text-box.

There is no fucking thing as X-Windows. Seriously, you have three different official titles, yet you still manage to pick a wrong one. How does that work?

It shouldn't depend on an application to get a textbox right. It's because of the half-assed way you copy and paste in X.
I believe the trick is to get used to using the select buffer only when you intend to paste it immediately, and use ctrl-c for anything you want to keep in the buffer for any length of time.
Having said that I still haven't gotten used to it.

I believe he was referring to:
X
X Window System
X Window System, Version 11
X Version 11
X11
These are the official titles. Take a look at man X. "X Windows" is generally frowned upon (by the anal).

I like the select buffer because I don't have to use the keyboard to copy stuff.
How hard would it be to add a Clear button anyway?

position the cursor at the end (or maybe any other place) of the textbox and press 'ctrl' and 'u' on your keyboard. incidentally, pressing 'ctrl' and 'k' deletes from the current position to the end. i don't have firefox to test this, but both shortcuts should work with any modern x-toolkit.

And GTK is a X-toolkit. Ctrl-U is recognized even by Motif and shells.

Firefox has its own special toolkit, I think. It connects to GTK/Windows/Photon/QT etc. So it doesn't have any of the short cuts X has.
PS. GTK2 sucks. It can't do Ctrl-U or anything.

Yeah I tried it out at home. c^U is short for "view page sauce"

Add 'gtk-key-theme-name = "Emacs"' to '~/.gtkrc-2.0'. Maybe that'll make some shortcuts work in Firefox.

I'm more worried about it being fucking slow compared to Win32.
