I'm interested in building my own computer. Does anyone know any good tutorials/guides describing what I should look for in buying parts and putting it together and everything that isn't the first random thing they found on google? Or should getting some book from the bookstore be better?

Most only go in one way anyway, so it's difficult to fuck it up.

Scott Mueller's Upgrading and Repairing PCs. Expensive, but very good and very detailed. Make sure you get the latest edition (16th).

Get an A+ certification, only to realize you've wasted money on something you could have easily learned yourself.

I don't know what you have against google but I've found plenty of sites that gave good info on BYO PCs. If you're looking for a guide on how to decide what parts you need, Directron.com has some decent guides in most of their main category pages. Putting everything together really is easy. It's trying to pick the right parts the first time that really gets you.

well i know it's probably easy, but i would rather have a guide so I don't totally mess something up or overlook something

who bumped a six year old thread. And necrobumping is always acceptable as long as you have something to contribute. I don't, however, so that is why I am saging.
