This morning while I was sleeping my wife decided to make my study even smaller by moving a bookcase in. To do this she moved my computer. Now it hangs during boot when it gets to the "checking ram" stage.
I've tried swapping all the DIMMs around, nothing. Halp :(

Carefully pull and reseat the DIMMs, the expansion cards, and the CPU, then cross your fingers and try again.

reseating the CPU shouldn't be necessary. CPUs install like nobody's business.
In fact, if the memory was installed properly in the first place; a small incendiary device should've been the first line of offense against your DIMMs.
remove all memory. then put a single stick into the first slot. check boot. if it doesn't work, try next slot. etc etc. bad memory + bad slot = bad boot. design your own system of checking each RAM.
maybe she fried some of your memory when she unplugged the computer.

Tried all that.
I've had this computer for over 5 years, the ram's always been reliable even as everything else fell down around its ears.

Okay, blow out the system with a can of air, ya never know. And how old is your ps? I had a system that used to hang at that step, ps was old, not to mention the wires were messed up from years of twisting around drives causing all sorts of shorts.

Did that. >>6
Going to do that but I have a dissertation that's already about a week late and I don't have time to buy and build a new one :( >>7
psu is as old as the rest of the computer. You think that could be it? It would be really weird if all my memory had simultaneously died, but a psu I could believe.
