I remember someone (Ben?) saying that Otomo's realistic way of drawing manga passed into animation influencing people like Takashi Nakamura. He at least was the AD for The Order to Stop Construction and Akira. Then came Utsunomiya, Okiura, Iso, Ohira, etc. all branching from there and doing their own thing.

Also it's not like early animation or Western animation didn't care about anatomy. Disney tended to do fairly realistic physics with a very strict 3D construction for characters. The Inoue/Okiura kind of realism has the difference that the drawings resemble real people and that there is very little exaggeration in the movements.
Shinichiro Watanabe (General Director), Yoshiyuki Ito (Character Design) and BONES (Anime Production)!
Funky sci-fi comedy produced by topnotch staff!
Start airing on TV in Japan in January 2014!
This show is going to look so good on full screen 1080p.
Beside the animation, I also like the color design a lot.
It's so colorful but at the same time very balanced, it doesn't feel overdone.
I have no idea how they managed to do this.

Otaking, the "doctor who anime" guy? No, just, no. I don't know what it is about his art, the way he colors things, or his designs, but I hate everything he's ever done or will do in the future.

Like recycling scenes never happens in anime. Ever.
Come on now, the KlK hate is getting old. Go talk about sakuga or something.
