It used to bother me a lot that there are no animation articles written about frame modulation.
The only place where it's slightly mentioned is on Yasuo Otsuka's wikipedia.

But I think it has become more common these days in the west.
I've recently seen frame modulation in french animated shorts from Gobelins university.
I heard rumors that Otsuka visited Gobelins long time ago and teached them some of his techniques such as his frame-modulation stuff.
