Is there any US/Western animation that isn't strictly comedy or sunday kids stuff that doesn't suck ass, AND isn't episodic and doesn't include anything with ____man or superheros?

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-22 23:51

then you ARE LOOKING FOR WAP CARTOONS lol

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-24 0:08

Serious adult cartoons that do not have heros? That rules out 99.9% of U.S. animation and 98.9% of Anime.

guh I can't figure anything out : (

I agree that much of anime has superheroes, episodic, and is comedic. But that percentage is too high, it should be like... 80%

GARGOYLES
ROSWELL CONSPIRACIES

JACK FTW.

Beast wars or Beasties whichever...(hmm what came after that series?
Shadow Raiders
Reboot (or is that comedyish?)
Cyber Six (I think that wasn't anime...)

What do you expect man - no one in America will fund a dramatic animation series that isn't already a superhero action series. I'd love to see something like Monster over here, but without some kind of toy line to profit from, I don't think a serious show can get produced.

Cybersix was a Japanese/Canadian co-production based on an Argentinan comic.  Animated in Japan, but essentially for an English audience.  Whether this actually counts as 'anime', I can't decide.

It does, however, kick much ass.

Beast Machines came after Beast Wars. It wasn't as good, but it wasn't as bad as everyone claims it is...

Aimed for kids, but those were very good.
>>9
Gargoyles was aimed for kids, but very good show. Loved to watch it as kid.
>>10
Again aimed for kids.
>>12
Aimed for kids, but they were good too.

Conclusion: 95% of Western animation is for kids, but in old times it was better than these days. Back then they had even plot and even adults can enjoy them. Atleast I do, even today.

Gargoyles and Transformers FTW

Heavy Metal

Spawn kicked ass back in the day, though, I suppose it would be disqualified for being a "superhero" show.

You fail at reading what OP said...

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-25 22:29

hint: all animation is for kids. stop pretending otherwise.

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-29 11:47

Not all. Most of them surely are watchable by kids, but I woudldn't show hentai to my kids.

>>1 anime in japan is aimed mainly for children. it's that "sunday kids stuff" except that poor fucking waps like you watch it trying to argue that IT HAS CONTENT IT REALLY DOES!!!111

then why it gets butchered when it comes to amerika?
if really its 4kids you dont need to butcher or censor a thing

It's difference between how Japanese and American ADULTS react to violence, sex and nudity. Japanese have much healthy views of violence, sex and nudity. They aren't viewed as taboos or anything. That's why to some Americans(mostly soccer moms and similar) it seems that kid's anime have too much violence(although typically "good guys" never do bad things and use violence only against really bad guys), sexual references and nudity.

THEN THE CONCLUSION IS IN JAPAN ANIME IS FOR KIDS
BUT IN AMERIKA THE SAME ANIME IS FOR TEENS?

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-31 23:52

>>31
No, that kids anime in Japan is not suitable to be kids anime in America :]

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-02 23:03

You guys all fail.

And not just regular fail, I'm talking guy-who-sneaks-into-a-bank-after-it-closes-robs-every-freaking-safe-deposit-box-and-then-realizes-hes-locked-in fail.

Watch the M.A.X.X, Heavy Metal, and maby Spawn to help you calm down after all the violence in the first two. Stop bitching, go away.

What's the point of it being animated if it can be easily done in real life?

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-02 22:14

>>42
I can think many settings hard to create in real-life that would make nifty base for good stories. These are atleast cyberpunk and steampunk. Sci-fi & fantasy in general are very expensive to make and today's trend seem to be use computer animation.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-05 14:35

That's why I'm pissed off at Hollywood for not making mature animated adapatations of V for Vendetta, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Hellblazer, From Hell, etc.  They just have to do live action.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-15 21:26

Not entirely true. Anime is often edited considerably from its manga, and Japan's got their own overprotective parents too...
