I can think many settings hard to create in real-life that would make nifty base for good stories. These are atleast cyberpunk and steampunk. Sci-fi & fantasy in general are very expensive to make and today's trend seem to be use computer animation.

That's why I'm pissed off at Hollywood for not making mature animated adapatations of V for Vendetta, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Hellblazer, From Hell, etc.  They just have to do live action.
