I can't believe I paid money for Image, Malibu/Ultraverse, Valiant/Acclaim, Topps, and even DC and Marvel. My god, it's horrible.

Go back to Wapan if you think western comics suck so bad.

Not all western comics. But some are bad, just really really bad. Especially anything printed for the sole purpose of being collectible, and now being worth less than its cost to print.
And then there is the Doom comic.

If you regret buying the doom comic then you are clearly an illiterate faggot.
I regret the time I spent reading the City of Heroes comic. I didn't pay for it (they give you a free subscription for as long as you have an active account to boost sales figures) but I regret the time I lost and will never reclaim.

I like reading this thread and pretending everybody has the "Comic Book Guy" voice. But to be honest myself, the only kind of comic I do enjoy reading are those with over abundance of humor. Comics that are far too serious or try too hard to be dark and sinister (Hahahaha TODD MCFARLANE >:( ) make me bored.

I hate almost all of John Byrne's comics. Dunno why, but I just can't stomach his artistic style. And the sad, no...TRAGIC, thing is, I downloaded 30 issues of X-Men: The Hidden Years. Guess which 'artiste par excellence' pencilled The Hidden Years? John Byrne! Yaeaaay! I'm floating! I think it's time for my Trazodone shot now...

I just thought I'd give my opinion on the western comics vs. manga thing. Where I'm from, both of them have been very popular for many years. We have guys like Leinil Francis Yu and Whilce Portacio, who are from a long list of artists that have worked for DC/Marvel. And how big is Anime/Manga here? Let's just say that every major TV network has or had an anime block, there are two anime-only channels on cable, and almost everybody and their dad/uncle knows the OP/EN theme of a certain 70's giant robot anime series.
I enjoy both Manga and western comics and I think bad art or storylines eventually happen in both. Then there's that "Somebody's trash is somebody's treasure" thing, so I think no matter how ugly or confusing it got, somebodys always willing to say it's a masterpiece.
One thing I've noticed is that most western comics tend to be for a more mature crowd. I know it didn't start out that way, but through the years it gotten really hard for younger kids to understand the characters, the grammar, the plot, etc. I guess that comes from trying to come up with stories to retain the interest of the older fans. Today the companies are trying to solve that problem by introducing simpler BATMAN,TEEN TITANS, JUSTICE LEAGUE just so the kids can get on the bandwagon. Manga, on the other hand, is practically the same as it has been. Stories about anything for anybody, just don't expect it run forever.
Sorry for the long reply. Oh, right...the comic I'm ashamed to own, as I've written in the other thread, is the "DEATHMATE" Image/Valiant X-over. No words can describe the horror...not even "AMALGAM COMICS"...

They were all the rage ten years ago. And most of them say "collectible" on the cover. Well?

A bunch of Valiant and Image comics that i bought without knowledge of what was i buying just because they were cheap, you know, one of those 5x3 (take five, pay three) promotions. They costed to me like 10 pesos, less than a dollar and all they were published in english, something that i don't even could speak at the time.
And also an Spiderman Indian edition.

Have you ever seen Perry's H stuff? Far, far, far, far, far, far, farfarfarfar SO MUCH FUCKING FAR WORSE than golddigger. It's like one of those one-note playboy illustrations that aren't even worth a whole page, or half, but a fourth, tucked into the corner, turned into a full blown COMIC.
sweet fucking christ am I glad that I only paid the amount to have that burned onto a CD. Poor, poor CD. You could have been used for so much more.
