Cartoon Network has jumped ship

Name: Anonymous 2005-10-30 8:46

"First, it started with the announcement of Wulin Warriors, which may or may not (debatably) be animation.

Then, a live-action pilot called Saul of the Mole People was announced for Adult Swim.

Now, it's final: Starting next year, the word "Cartoon" will mean nothing to this network's name. They will be airing full-fledged, live-action movies.

Yes, you heard me. This is not a joke. This is an actual commercial that aired on Cartoon Network. Their first movie on the list, Who Framed Roger Rabbit? is understandable, but look at what else they picked up:

-Small Soldiers
-The Goonies
-Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves"

I think a little part of me just died on the inside.

I can't wait for CN Jr in the morning and CN at Nite in the evening.  Maybe they'll air the live action Dennis the Menace and Lassie.

Name: Anonymous 2005-11-07 13:27

What in the world? Did some executive just wake up this morning and think "gee let's clone Disney"?

Name: Anonymous 2005-12-03 19:42

Judging by the quality of the new afternoon shows...they want to copy Nick's worst periods instead.

Name: metal_former 2005-12-03 21:35

I can't find the logic behind airing live action movies. Have them ran out of good ideas? O_o

Name: Anonymous 2005-12-04 14:03 (sage)

Cartoon Network sucks now. They almost never show any of their good old shows, and the only anime they play is weaboo shit like InuYasha and Fullmetal Alchemist (and wtf is that doing on Adult Swim?!).

Fuck Cartoon Network.

Cartoon network created Boomerang to show all their old hanna barbera cartoons. As for alot of the 80s stuff you're probobly looking for(GI Joe, transformers, thundercats etc.) they've all got DVD releases now so seeing them on TV is unlikely.  As for Adult Swim showing InuYasha and Full Metal Alchemist, they're extremely popular long running shows. This means they're fairly sure bets to get high ratings, high ratings means more advertising dollars, and to get that durring late night will get network execs pretty wet.

Name: Anonymous 2005-12-08 16:28

isnt it funny how the popular long running animes are always the same formula?

The first 3 or 5 episodes set up the series, and then it's all pretty much filler with an episode that relates to the over all plot of the series.

oh right, because the simpsons and ER and every other show that lasts more the 5 seasons have such strong continuity packed into every episode

oh wait because it's anime it gets judged on a different set of rules, all shonen = dbz amirite?

Name: Anonymous 2005-12-09 1:04

You're an idiot. The simpsons and ER dont have an overall plot. The simpons tells a story in a 22 min setting, Full metal alchemist is about a guy and his brother on a quest trying to find a stone, oh wait we gotta stop and help this person that'll lead us into a CRAZY adventure.

I'm not denying that some US shows dont have filler epsodes. But to compare shows like the simpsons to animes like DBZ is retarded.

because when it comes to the anime, AS is really selling to teens who think that their anime is super mature and adult, not adults.

Wulin Warriors (Utter Carp) take images from the taiwanese puppetshow roughly translated "Thunder Force." The is puppety and some computer animations for some special effects for magic related abilites of the characters. Not really animation in my opinion...

Name: Anonymous 2005-12-24 6:06

>>12 WTF puppets and CG? wow, how lazy are those chinks?

Name: Anonymous 2005-12-24 15:35

it's fucking incredible puppet work; it's a terrible shame about the bastardized audio, though.

Name: FengZhiHen 2005-12-24 16:00

The also trashed the stories and music, recut scenes in a very poor fashion, and changed the characters.
>>13
And if you are going to refer to us as Chinks, at least have the decency to leave a fake name.

Name: WANG-TANG-GWANG 2005-12-25 1:00

>>14 If the puppet work is anything like team america or that wooden buy in the back pain commercials IMA GO BUY DAT 5999 DOLLAH BOX SET RITE NOW. well no.
>>15 Hi, is this name any better? I thought Taiwan hates China...

Name: FengZhiHen 2005-12-25 1:43

>>16
I might suggest to look at a few clips of the orginal series, or even the ripoff, to pass judgement on the puppetry. If you are interested i can probably tell you of a good place to look for clips.
I am Han, which technically makes me "chink." An the concept is actually very misunderstood, there is about a 40-40-20 split on the opnions of chinese from taiwan. And yes the name makes me happy...

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-17 0:49

To that bitch ass who is refering to people as chinks. Lemme not catch yah anywhere. I'll set your neighbours canary on yah. Think your all bad and stuff, I know you sleep in your mummys bed coz yours scared the boogie man will getcha. Come up here and insult people. Lets all ignore this ignorant bastard shall we.

Now go tell your mum.

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-19 4:35

I'm actually looking foreward to Saul of the Mole People.

Name: anonymous by choice 2006-01-30 20:22

As for the origional post.  The way thees movies were made in thier time is even though it is live action, the characters ar acting cartoonish in a way.  we are not talking drama her, comedy, and comedy is a live action cartoon.

Name: Anonymous 2006-02-03 12:48

There is a CN jr, it's called "Tickle U" there is a CN at nite, but Adult Swim rawks harder thant Nick ever could.

Name: Anonymous 2006-02-03 12:50

Name: Anonymous 2006-02-10 15:33

if anyone can remember way back when CTN started, thay had 1 live action show, some kind of "bananarama" or something from the 70's, I always thought this was a huge mistake as it was not a cartoon and it sucked and yes adult swim has jumped the shark.

Name: Anonymous 2006-02-12 11:27

Loli cartoons are for paedophiles.

FUCK CARTOONS

Name: Anonymous 2006-02-13 21:44

Name: Anonymous 2006-02-15 3:14

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-01 12:09

>>31
yes, a fine alternative to fucking kids

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-05 7:17

shouldn't we be worried more just about the quality of the programming, regardless of whether or not it's animated? that's all i care about. they can call the network whatever the hell they like if they get a good lineup.

Name: jashal 2006-04-05 22:30

doesn't a business have a right to change themselves? i thought that was called capitalism.  also, i think saul might be a really funny show, and the person that said the puppet work in team america sucked, no shit! that's one reason that movie was funny.

Don't change these.
