Reading a book in a foreign language.

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-20 5:22

That's the stuff bros. I'm brazilian, ergo, I speak portuguese as my mother language, however, I'm perfect fluent in english and I use to read book in english.
I noticed that, my effort to read a book in a foreign language make easy to me read a book in my mother language.
It's like run on the beach(hard) and then run on the sidewalk(easy).

Your English is good, but not fluent given the simple mistakes in your post.  Nevertheless you make an interesting point.

Reading in foreign languages is a great way to build up your vocabulary and develop a familiarity with its grammatical structure and idiom.

I allow myself to indulge in popular thrillers, Murakami and other less demanding reads in my two foreign languages. This has proved far more fruitful than my attempts at traditional language study.

Same for me bro! Now that I've developed my English I'll try to improve my French.

If English is my native language and I learnt high school level French but most of that has been forgotten what books could you recommend for reading to learn French?
