The Scarlet Letter

I have to read this for one of my collage literature classes. Problem is, every time I try to read this book, I fall asleep. (no joke) And when I DO happen to not fall asleep, I can't remember any of the details.

I guess none of that matters, I would just like to know if /book/ has read this abomination, and what you guys think about it.

Strangely enough, that is the only one of Hawthorne's works I have not read. In my opinion, he is a far better short story writer than novelist. He doesn't seem to have as astute an eye for detail when working in the longer form, and his moral lessons become fractured and ineffective.

I am in high school and I had to read it. Never finished it though I read Ape and Essence,Slaughter-House Five and Child of God. Funny thing is just found out that I have to pull a essay out of my ass.

Indeed.  I remember reading Young Goodman Brown right after Scarlet Letter in high school and enjoying it a lot more.

Read a couple of Hawthorne short stories and was contemplating picking Scarlet Letter since I'd heard of it. Is it really that bad? Seem to recall enjoying Feathertop mostly for the parts Baum lifted wholesale, rather than the social commentary.

It's OK.  Just a little flat in some parts

Don't change these.
