I don't get it.

I write a story.  I draft it, read it, edit it, re-read it, re-edit it, double-check in a word processor for correct spelling, do research when necessary to be accurate, and read it one last time before submitting it to make sure there are no kinks, no plot holes or anything that breaks the flow of a story.  I post that, and get zero comments.

Meanwhile, someone I've never seen before comes up, writes a badly written wall of text with zero capitals or punctuation and a style that makes the Prince Ken Saga feel like a masterpiece in comparison - and he gets flooded by raving reviews and demands for more.

Why.

Just... why?

Post...where? Anyway, this guy has found an audience that he appeals to (and it happens to be the sort that loves to post constantly on "social networking" sites, Youtube, and anything else they can manage). Find yours. Post here? It could work.

Where are you posting your stuff, and what kind of fiction are your writing? Fanfiction? Original? And what kind of feedback are you looking for? If you're writing a lot of fanfiction, for example I suggest getting a basic account on LiveJournal (yeah, I know, at least it's better then My Space), and joining some communities for that fandom. If you're writing original and looking for real feedback (read: real criticism from people who make their living writing books, they will be polite but not gentle) Absolute Write is where I'd go.

As for the crap writers... yeah, chances are they're whoring their stories over on ElJay, etc, and getting their friends to come over and review. Chances are they're also writing a popular genre or pairing, with a good dose of angst and butterflies. Cheesy tactics, but it does work! (just look at Twilight)

you're not a very good writer I'm guessing?

Eragon succeeded in a world where you *could* be reading Lord of the Rings. If you are a decent writer, you could be too intellectual, as intellectuals are a rare breed. If your form is either too complex, or too long, or you have good vocabulary, people won't like you. People are fucking stupid.

Don't change these.
