William Gibson's books

After reading W. Gibson's truly cool Singapore article (and after having heard of some influential books he happened to have written), I figured I'd have to read more of his stuff.

Which of his books would you recommend? I'd be interested in reading Neuromancer (influential book, interesting setting), but it seems to be quite complicated not only language-, but also storywise. Please note English is not my first language, although I'm quite proficient. I don't know if this might pose a problem, but the reviews on amazon suggest quite complicated language structures were employed. So, does this pose a problem to a proficient English speaker, slowing reading speed to a crawl and thus destroying fun/interest?

Could you recommend other books by Gibson? Which one(s) should I start with?

I seriously doubt it will blow your head off.

Have some confidence in yourself, friend.

Not at all. Pynchon he is not. The Amazon reviews are just saying that he's not going to explain this to you, so you'd better get it.

Neuromancer is probably my least favorite piece he's written, and I've read all but two of his books. It started out good, but then it lost its way. I much prefer his short stories from the same period.

Could you give me some book titles, please?

Hmm, depends on what you would like to read. I haven't read Count Zero or Mona Lisa Overdrive, but I'm led to believe they are similar to Neuromancer, except better, I assume. Some short stories are Johnny Mnemonic, New Rose Hotel, and Burning Chrome. Dogfight is a good one. Beginning with the bridge trilogy (Virtual Light, Idoru, All Tomorrow's Parties), he was edging out of cyperpunk, but those are some good books. And his later stuff is good too, but isn't classic Gibson.

I liked Virtual Light the most because of all the Gibson books this one seems to give the most charctherization. Sometimes Gibson can get so focused on an idea like nodal points that he will allow it to be the sole piece of charicartization.

Don't change these.
