ITT we compile a list of authors who, according to ourselves, stand out from the rest simply by their raw writing ability. The authors who could write a five thousand page novel on paint drying and we would just sit there and read it, mesmerized by every word.
For me it would be China Mieville, George R.R. Martin, and Neal Stephenson.
Some authors I like but there overall literary talent isn't as good as there abilities to write plots. like ayn rand. I love her booksbut her writing style is length and boring. I like Gore Vidal but his style is nothing special
I agree at least partially. Few authors can write an action scene as well as he can.

I want to say JRR Tolkien because I'm a massive faggot for LotR, but honestly, his writing is a little difficult to push yourself through.

Tolkien's language is beautiful; he paid a lot of attention to the sound of words, to their form, and that's very important. Orwell did as well, but not with the care and mastery that Tolkien applied to it.
