What should I read next?

Ok, I have only just gotten back into reading after years wasted in video games and TV.
I FINALLY finished the LotR trilogy and the Silmarillion; Have nearly completed the first three books of the "Ramayana" series by Ashok K Banker; and am trying to finish the Serpent War Saga by Raymond Fiest.

What other books or authors are worth reading? Suggestions?

The series of "Bas-Lag" books by China Mieville. Starts with Perdido Street Station, continues with The Scar, and Iron Council. The Scar was the best book in my opinion (I liked the extensive talk about the Ghosthead Empire, and High Cromlech), and Iron Council is the worst.

I'm reading Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer right now, and it's pretty good. I liked his other book, Everything is Illuminated, too.

Read either The wheel of time by Robert Jordan, or A Song of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin. They would definatley continue the fantasy theme if that is what you are looking for

I highly recommend reading M.K. Gandhi's autobiography.  It is very interesting hearing about the personal events that shaped this man.  If not that, and you feel like reading some quick light horror stories go for some H.P. Lovecraft.  I also recommend the original Dune books.

isntead, just get GEORGE R.R. MARTIN'S EPIC "A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE"

A Game of Thrones
A Clash of Kings

Dhalgren by Samuel R.Delany is pretty rad, it makes crap to no sense but it's still an awesome read.
