there are enough /b/rothers here willing to lurk a /lit/ board. plus maybe it's presence would attract other less worldy or just...dumb 4channers into the world of awesomeness thus exposing them to the greatness of men like Chuck Palahniuk and Albert Camus. ...basically....FUCKING SIGNED!!!!!!!!

Oh for fuck's sake... Why do you think raids and jailbait had to be explicitly banned? You have to keep it SMALL if you want to fly under the radar, not devote an entire fucking bored to piracy. The /b/ threads will do just nicely, and you should consider yourself lucky to have that.

I'm not >>1 and I don't visit /b/, are the threads there strictly about ebooks? Personally I don't give a shit about them, I just want to discuss books.

There is some book discussion in the eBook threads, yes. There was even talk of a /b/ook club where everyone picks a book, reads it, and then the next thursday talks about it.

A /lit/ board would only work as a text only board. Creating an image board for the purpose of exchanging embedded (read: pirated) books would get moot raped and shut this place down. You have no idea.
You think CP is dangerous? You think the FBI party van is bad? It's nothing compared to the hurt that can be brought down on on moot's head by a single publisher's copyright lawyer. Those fucks are vicious and vindictive. The first letter from such an attorney, and there goes /lit/ (if not all of 4chan).
PS. There's this thing called "Public Domain" which encompasses many great books. Not all free e-books are illegal.

4chan is littered with copyrighted material, but whatever, the entire god-damned internet is.
We could simply have a board rule of "no copyrighted material." There are tons of great books in the public domain or other loose licenses that we could share within the board for mere convenience, and this has been greatly appreciated by everyone already). And even so, people could still use third parties for sharing copyrighted stuff, just like it already happens, all the time, and nobody ever complained.
A big disclaimer and some text explaining how 4chan's /lit/ strongly encourages people to go buy the books they liked would also help, and it would also be entirely true. I bought Zombie Survival guide after I read the ebook, and I wouldn't have if it wasn't for the ebook. A lot of people in 4chan bought House of Leaves because it has been greatly discussed in here.
But more importantly, a /lit/ board would focus mostly on discussion of books, and I don't see why would that a problem at all.
So you see, the idea for a /lit/ board is great, and it should happen.

IS DAT SUM SENSIBLE ARGUMENTS ON MAH 4CHAN????
Books suck sure there's an ebuild for books but it just get dropped to /opt, it's statically linked, and it's CLOSED SOURCE, which means that it is a BINARY package.
>>264
Let's see... There are /mu/, /t/, /n/ and /sp/ as imageboards. Does any of those need images? No.
And there's also news, music, sports and cooking as text boards. Why not an imageboard for books as well, then?
So just GTFO you illiterate fuck.

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with not giving in to the demands of self-important faggots like you and every other pencil-necked fucker that actually looks at this board.
for violating copyrights with archives of EVERYTHING EVER WRITTEN, SUNG, PHOTOGRAPHED OR ACTED OUT embedded in images, probably CP, vast amounts of glorious CP. Of course. STFU.

Hey bud, this is the internet. This is 4CHAN for god's sak. If you're here, you're automatically a pencil-necked fucker loser faggot nerd.
Because the board would be for trading ebooks embedded in jpegs. The way it's currently done on /b/ is this: there's a trick to hide a .rar within a .jpeg. You open the .jpeg with WinRAR, and there's your ebook. Image boards are perfect for such things. Especially given how long threads last-all evidence is gone within a day.
