Why should I read the Da Vinci Code

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-05 21:34

Is it good? I heard it's like reading an novelised version of " National Treasure"

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-06 1:36

The Da Vinci Code is proof that the majority of people are actually pretentious idiots. No taste, no intelligence, and definitely no reading ability.

Take a look at the average rating, and abandon all hope for humanity's future: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0385504209/

It is not good and it's worse than a novelised "National Treasure". Skip that book if you can and read "The Name of the Rose" from Umberto Eco if you want a book orgasm from that genre.

It's enjoyable if you don't take it seriously. Don't listen to people saying OMG CHRISTIAN REVELATION SO AMAZINGLY RESEARCHED RSGAGFGA /or/ people saying DAN BROWN SUCKS OPEN UR MIND. If you're able to suspend your disbelief and take it with several pinches of salt, it's a good book. Great for reading on beach holidays and such, much like a detective novel is.

"The Da Vinci Code" is the worst book ever, it has no literary value what so ever. It seems as if a three year old wrote it. Also, the plot is so horribly bad I cannot even see how it passes as fiction. How in the world Dan Brown even managed to get it published is a mystery of considerable mysteriousness!

In an answer to your question, you should read the Da Vinci Code if you fulfil one or more of the following criteria:

You hate books with an original plot.
You hate books with multidimensional characters.
You love Marty Stus.
You are gullible, are easily excited by sensationalist crap, and really, really hate Christians.
You are easily excited by hype, in which case, please see above.
You have no taste in literature whatsoever and/or you hate the English language.
You believe that all books must read like a movie.

How in the world Dan Brown even managed to get it published is a mystery of considerable mysteriousness!

This is easily the best summary of Dan Brown I have ever read. I'm saving it for posterity.

Most anything on 4chan has more literary merit than anything Dan Brown could come up with. Even if he crams it full of desu and moe.

Seconded for sad truth.

If you have to absolutely read something about it, get "The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail". Dan ripped off 90% of it anyway, and it's a much more bearable read.

What about "Foucault's Pendulum" by the same author? It also deals with conspiracy theories. And it is a pretty dfamn good read too.

Seconded for great justice. Foucault's Pendulum explodes conspiracy theory.

I personally believe Foucault's Pendulum was a pre-emptive joke on Umberto Eco's part at the expense of people like Mr Brown.

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-23 16:48

but how did it reach such a wide audience? and become famous?

It's the American Idol of literature. Some random yahoo found it, had their shallow minds blown open, then showed it to their equally retarded friends. It's now a multi-million dollar film based on the most unimaginative and generic characters ever created.

>>15 for truth.

Also Dan Brown has found a winning formula for success.

1) Sensationalist prose.
2) Cliched characters.
3) Controversy.
4) ??? (stupid people)
5) Profit!

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-25 22:23

the popularity just snowballed
most people that've read it, or went to see the movie probably weren't huge fans of it but just did it to see what all the talk was about

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-26 1:01

I didn't like the book because he used a controversial plot and cliffhangers to keep people reading rather then simply writing the book well.

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-26 6:21

THE DA VINCI CODE IS BEST MOVEI IN WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! WATCH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-26 16:58

I attempted to read it but Dan Brown couldn't keep me interested past 50 pages....it's an okay story I guess, but Dan Brown isn't a great writer. I'd say that it would be better to watch as a movie, just a poor story for literature

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-28 15:10

I just downloaded the book, and I must say, I've seen bad fanfiction with better writing.

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-28 17:07

I'm not sure if the sentence structure and grammatical style is bold and rebellious or just bad writing.  Most English teachers would dock points off every page.

Umberto Eco is gay too, except that he uses Big Words to make you think otherwise

Nothing wrong with a writer being homosexual. I read his books, not let him stick it in my pooper.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-03 22:46

The book's style is terrible - it's very badly written. Once you get past that, though, it's pretty interesting and suspenseful. Worth reading.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-08 2:26

I'm actually reading the Da Vinci Code because I saw the movie, and I think that a couple of characters (namely Langdon and Silas) weren't developed enough in the movie, although they could've been really interesting.  I wanted to see if Brown had done a considerable amount more with them in the book.

Unfortunately, I also have to agree. The book was okay, but nothing extraordinary the way the general consensus makes it out to be. The characters lacked depth and I also agree, it read out like a movie script to me.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-19 11:56

it was okay just see the movie don't waste a few days of your life on that book. of course there are things missing because it's a movie but it gets the point across.

Don't change these.
