i've read the bible once.
i'm muslim by the way. you guys have more sick shit going on over there. i have reason to believe that most Christians haven't even read the bible even once. or else they won't be eating shrimp.
other religious texts i have come across: the ramayana, well excerpts of it anyway, we studied it for literature. crazy hindu mythology, kinda reminds me of the Illiad.

shall i recommend you christian MYTHOLOGY then?
fallen angels, seraphims, cherubs.
cherubs especially, depicted as babies actually bears this description (blatant rip from wikipedia, mind you):
In Eastern Christianity, the most frequently encountered descriptor applied to Cherubim is "many-eyed". They are often represented in iconography as a face peering out from the center of an array of either four or six wings, sometimes visually indistinguishable from Seraphim. Often the wings are depicted covered with many eyes.
some even claim they have many faces. seriously what were they smoking back then?

im pretty sure Catholics dont read the bible. Quote from 1st timothy-
1The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 2Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. 3They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth.

I like the "don't add to this book or you will get part of heaven taken from you" clause. It's like the fine print legal disclaimer of the afterlife. Take that Mormons.
Well, Catholics do, but Catholic catechism is generally based more on traditonal church dogma than on actual Biblical instructions. That's what happens when your supreme religious leader is infallible when it comes to religious matters: whatever he says instantly becomes written into church law.

Christians have left scriptures behind. it's mostly the ten commandements now
Muslims aren't allowed to reinterpret their barbaric texts
Jews would be pretty evil if they followed their texts. luckly they are smart enough to know better
Buddhists never gave a shit in the first place

The bible ofcourse and it's quite good read. Also reading it you will see how odd religion is Christianity as it combines hard law based Judaism with Jesus's teaching. Be sure to get good translation though as many especially modern ones tend to be flawed. I have for long time wanted to read Vedas, but they're badly translated and many are not translated at all. Learning Sanksrit doesn't appeal to me either.

I've read the Bible (I'm Christian), the Quran, and the Book of Mormon (including the D&C and the PoGP). The Quran was okay, a lot of it read like Psalms. The BoM pulled too much of the shit that Samuel/Kings/Chronicles do for most of the middle of it (this king did this, this people fought that people, blah, blah, blah) so was kind of boring for that, but the parts where things actually happened weren't that bad.

Yeah, if you want a good modern translation of the Bible, I'd recommend the New Living Version. It has very modern text but stays very literal to the original languages. Translations like the NRSV and the NASB are much harder to read. The NIV is okay.

Most of that buddhist stuff is good cause it's not really about believing to gods and supernatural beings, but how to live your life well.
Obviously all religions are about living the "right" way but the chinese didn't have to build up all this mumbojumbo around it just to get people to follow it.

if you read regularly enough, maybe two months. the new testament can be easily be done in two weeks without too much work. i split it into three pieces, genesis thru kings, then new testament (cause samuel and kings are boring), then chronicles (which is basically a recap of samuel and kings anyway) thru the end of the old testament

What about Book of Mormon and related spinoffs? I hear it's really lame and repetitive.

this game is sick! slap hoez and bitches buy em crack to keep em pleased kill niggaz everywhere claim turf trafic drugs join a cartel of pimps clib to the top and win real cash niggas!
The parts where stuff happens aren't bad, but most of it is just, "And it came to pass that the Nephihtes fell into sinful lives. A prophet came and they became good again. After he died, the people fell into sin again," mixed with, "And it came to pass that the Lamanites attacked again, but the Nephites defeated them. There was peace for (20-200) years. Then the Lamanites attacked again," and a little, "And it came to pass that (Nephite king) died. His son took over and was a sinful, evil king. But then God killed him and appointed (someone else) as king, who was a good kind and ruled wisely." (Yes, it uses "And it came to pass" that often.)

It took me about week or so, but I used to read it daily for many hours. Was an OK book, not bad read at all.

Read some Buddhist scriptures. It's like reading a heavy textbook with many fables.

I recommend Vedic literature to anyone. Though most is in Sankskrit and translations aren't very finely done. Still very interesting and surprising stuff. Hindu religion in general is very interesting too and it has many faces. Something for everyone as they say.
>>26
Indeed. Hinduism being oldest religion is quite interesting and awesome. Sadly western imperialism caused lot of damage to it. Raping of Africa is mild compared to serious cultural damage of India. Many don't know what Hinduism is truly is or grand history of ancient India. Once great Hindu civilization maybe not so great anymore, but instead of just forgetting them we should study them and learn from them. Even our modern "advanced" culture has much to learn from Hinduism.

Eh. Muslims raped (and continue to rape) Hindus much more than the West.

Here, I'll simplify it for you:
anything that feels good = sin = death
anything that feels lame = virtue = holiness
Be a lametard and go to heaven, be an awesome motherfucker and have a great life!
