Bullshit.

There is no emotional aspect involved in mecha, you don't have to think about how to move a robot or vehicle based on anything but physics.
Character animation is much, much more rewarding artistically, and good character animation is by far more exciting to watch than good mecha animation. You're only thinking about action scenes, forgetting the unlimited range of possibilities for the artform.
