Are you seriously comparing HxH's animation quality to kyoani's? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

This black and white pencil punch should have a name.

I love these kind of hommages, it's like animators doing that Kanada dragon thing.

Someone should translate the terms there. It even mentions Yutapon cubes.

"Takeuchi Wrinkle"
It could be glass, it could be uniform, it could be an empty can but it seems to be soft anyway.

Can't be Numata, they're fucking awful.

Name: Anonymous 2013-05-23 12:45

Numata is fucking awful.

Name: Anonymous 2013-05-23 12:58

Of course these designs are awful, if you've seen the manga you'd know why. It's already an improvement from that terrible art though.

>When pondering about who should be the director, I immediately had Yoshinari (※2) in mind. By the time we told him about our idea, Yoshinari had already started working on a TV series as one of the main staff, and it seemed he was in conflict about whether it was okay to leave the staff. Despite having expected refusal, his answer after a week was, “Let’s do it.” That is when our project started.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, THEY LITERALLY STOLE YOSHINARI FROM IG

Name: Anonymous 2013-05-24 10:52

The guys at Trigger are Yoshinari's best friends, would be totally ass if he had refused to join them and rather do Mass Effect shit at IG.

Yuasa is so indie and fashion.

Yuasa and Ohira are "independent meets mainstream"

Name: Anonymous 2013-05-24 10:56

Yuasa is an artist

Yuasa's animation is always on acid

According to Maruyama, Takeshi Koike didn't leave Madhouse, he was fired because Redline took so long to make.

Poor Koike, relegated to doing random KA and design work for crappy Live action films. He should just go join Trigger.

I can't blame them. How the fuck do you take 7 years to make Redline? They make Ghibli movies in 2 1/2 3 years. Learn from that.

Name: Anonymous 2013-05-24 19:53

>>353
Are you actually comparing Ghibli to Redline? Have you even seen the film?

It had just as much, if not more, animation as a Ghibli film. Plus, an enormous amount of hand-drawn vehicle animation. Plus, WAY more complex character designs. In the time it took to draw one frame of Redline, Ghibli could probably finish an entire sequence.

>>337

How do you know Yoshinari was at I.G at the time?

Name: Anonymous 2013-05-24 22:04

>>354
Yeah, I've seen it. I agree with the vehicle argument, but the  character design thing doesn't really hold. There wasn't a lot of long scenes with characters walking and interacting. To animate the character scenes there's no way in hell it'd have to take that much time. There were a couple of crowd scenes that didn't have complex movements.
Was Redline an awesome stylish animated movie? YES for sure. Should it have taken anywhere near 7 years to make it? Oh HELL NO!

so Photo Kano rotation shots are actually hand-drawn... 108 drawings were used for this one : http://twitpic.com/ch72e5

I heard that Redline changed the direction half way thought the production. The project started out as an OVA that's why it's not  produced by Madhouse's movie studio. Initially, It had a more wacky style(something like Dead Leaves or Trava) but after they decided to make it a movie, they changed the style to make it appeal to wider audiences.

This is what I heard. Don't quote me on this.

What a waste of effort.

Yeah, the style of the pilot is pretty different from the movie.
