Basically, do you think the japanese market could dry out so badly that the animators would have to rely on the american market, and if so. Would this mean the end of anime?

It's possible that anime will become less trendy in the future but not lower than what it was from the 60s to the 90s, and that wouldn't be so bad anyway.
But it's not like a big budget american show, a very large number of people in Japan draw manga.

Yes it would be.
The american animators would to to the anime industri what the american programmers did to nintendo.
And more popular JAPANESE titles would mean more fansubbers and more sources
