How do manga/anime drawers get their ideas?

Name: Anonymous 2006-12-28 16:41

Ok maybe the question sounds silly. I started to learn to draw Manga/Anime style several years ago, still not top but improved. BUT: scanning through the image boards, I see my biggest problem is, how do drawers think of all those poses?

I mean ok I can use a photo as reference or another drawing. It is not so much a technical problem, I can draw most poses with relative precision, I just totally lack the ideas. :((

So if any of you draw let me know how you do it, or if you know drawing ppl ask them, I'd love to know. ^^

well, first, you need a prepubescent girl, a giant squid, and a video camera.  that'll provide you with most of the poses you'll need.

Lol being a sicko I'd prefer a boy, but the squid and the camera sound good, haha. :D...

But seriously, I wonder if drawer (I mean those real drawing gods) take images or do all out of the blue mind?

well, they get insipiration from their drawers.

Probably a combination of both. You need a general insight into the natural motion of the body as well, if you are to make up your own poses.

There are tons of pose books, both in English and Japanese available for reference.

I don't like American-made pose books, because they don't look like Japanese anime (and you can always tell the difference). Wapanese fag, and proud of it.

I know what you mean. Most American-made "how to" books aren't very useful (not that the Graphic-sha books are much better).

I didn't clarify it earlier, but I was referring to the pose books where it's just a collection of photos. Those are usually the best. Since they don't have to get anything drawn, there are usually more poses (all they have to do is snap a photo). Since they don't have to draw anything, there's also never any questionable poses or anatomy issues.

Even Antarctic Press makes decent pose books (the photo kind).

Yay. Pose-books. I was assuming books like "how to draw manga" since they're divided into certain categories, like mecha or cute girls or something like that (i typically ignore these when in a bookstore). Anyway, American manuals (is that the correct term?) on drawing manga are =__=.

easy. all you do is pose in front of a mirror for 4 hours straight, then think of how cool you are. next you take that cool pose, and draw it on paper that has been pre-defecated.
