The fact many characters who could be black turn out to be
non-black kinda annoys me.
The Gunsmith Cats girl is Indian, Nadia is actually an Alien(?),
Mihoshi is also an Alien, Pluto is South Asian(?)..
While I don't think Japanese people harbor strong prejudice against black people, blacks are sortof underrepresented, I think.

they're just not needed in anime, since it's usually set in japan, a predominantly white (yellow) country. if i were to watch some indian or even african cartoon (or movie) i wouldn't demand white people to be in it either, because it'd be bullshit, since they're not the common residents of the country. only if a black character (in a white majority country in an anime) actually needs to be black for the character or for the story should they be. otherwise it's just done to please people who love to see lots of different races together in a cartoon. you'll get captain planet.

This entire post was pretty stupid and also very ignorant, so I won't bother going on about everything,
but just to clear things up, supposedly the "big eyes" started with various shoujo manga to make the characters seem more expressive. Since the Japanese, until recently (and even now in the rural parts), rarely had any contact with other races besides other eastern-Asians, what was there to compare themselves too? So, in cartoons, whether they decide to portray Japanese characters with a big 'this' or small 'that', it doesn't matter since they don't think "I better abide to the universal stereotype of my race..." Nobody thinks like that.

Good point. To add few words, Western people don't realize that if everyone in anime has big eyes it means everyone has just avarage eyes. Anime is a form of abstract art and everything that drew in anime is "signs", not realistic description.

Methinks, the diversity (in terms of Facial features) you see in Tokyo is just amazing. They have big/narrow eyes, slanted/downward-slanted eyes, fair/dark skin, straight/nappy hair.. you name it.
Culturally it may be quite homogeneous, but racially
it's been a melting pot or something.

Yes I'm talking that anime The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. It fucking sucks. Now it's pretty popular among the anime circles, and yet this poor excuse for an animated feature is the worst thing ever produced by a human being if you except Plan 9 from Outer Space, and I'm being generous.
First you gotta admit you hated the first episode. It made no sense, sucked as shit, wasn't funny, edgy or new. Or original. Animation sucked dead dogs' balls. Characters sucked dead dogs' balls. Voice actiong sucked dead dogs' balls. But you managed to make it through the whole pile of steaming poo just to see the ED. BEcause that's what this anime is about. It's about the ED. Those 1 minute and a half. There's nothing else to it. You went like "OMG ANIMATION LIEK" you freaking retards and now everyone likes it. Yet it's shit. It's complete shit with no redeeming qualities. There's fucking nothing to it. Just the dance at the end. It's a dancing anime. A fucking retarded danxcing anime with no story and nothing and no characters it sucks. You shouldn't like it you morons seriously. Just download the ED and loop it on your WMP you cockass faggot asses. DAMN I wish all those threads about HARUHI OMG YEAH would go one and everyone in them die FUCK YOU for polluting my forums HARUHI FUCK YOU.
AND NO IT'S NOT A COPY PASTA I'VE JUST TYPED THIS WHOLE THING.

I think they mainly do it to make them look cute. Older women don't usually have them, and men don't either. It's based on the fact that biologically we think things with big foreheads, small noses, small mouth, big eyes (i.e. what a baby looks like) are cute. It's a natural response to initiate a "caring" emotion from humans. I'm sorry I don't know the English word for it, but it's something that causes a biological reaction.

I remember seeing Yoruichi and all the girls of Bleach in a manga cover on the beach, and she looked africian to me, and not asian. Plus she was the only one eating watermelon, and we know how the japanese are about that.

Marik, Thief Bakura, Odion, Atemu, Isis, Karim, Shada, Shadi, Mana and Mahaddo from Yugioh is black . And
I don't care if their "really" egyptian either they look like blacks to me and egypt is in africa. Ghetto at that especially Bakura cause he reminds me of my cousin stealin and whatnot. And Duke Devlin is indian and Tea is mexican. See, the only thing with me is I don't care if they're not really supposed to be black if they look it then that's what I'll say they are. Whether it be light-skinned or dark as hell. Like Mihoshi from Tenchi Muyo. Some peole say she ain't black and just has a tan but I say she just light-skinned with blonde weave. I know ain't nobody gonna pop off about it either cause it's my opinion.

Well thinking back to Gundam nearly every black person shown was killed off.
0080 War in the Pocket - Garcia blew himself up.
Gundam F91 - Seabrook's black friend died as the first death, then Annamarie Bourget (indian?)
Then Gundam Wing, etc etc...
Also in Rahxephon there was that black guy Shawn that piloted the Vermillion 02, he got crushed by a dolem.
Seems to me alot of black people die in Anime, just as they would do in movies. "The black guy always dies first."

Isn't it at least partly because there aren't so many black guys
to begin with, so when one or two die, the death rate
gets easily disproportinate? I'm positive characters of other
races do get killed.
I attemting to make my own anime called Insigniea. Its like a mix of Bleach, Full matal alchemist, and Full metal Panic! Fumuffu!

You don't get many black people in anime/manga because their outlines aren't as clear. You don't get many asian-looking people in anime/manga because they draw big eyes to convey emotions.
End of story.

Actually, Anime/Manga/Comix characters don't look like ANY race
usually. Homer Simpson would resemble an Alien in real life at best.
