Anime that needs an unedited sub/dub

Name: Anonymous 2005-04-23 23:55

Nausicaa.  Sailor Moon.  Dragon Ball Z.  Many shows have been plagued with awful edits, mistranslations, changed dialogue and plot, bad or changed translation, and horrible voice acting and poor subtitles.  Only recently have uncut versions been released on DVD.  What other anime could use a fresh "unfucked with" translation?

This includes kids shows which will probably never see an uncut version let alone a subtitled version.

-Transformers (subtitles would need to have Japanese version of story and names-  Destrons, etc)
-Dragonball (still not released 100% uncut)
-Voltron (again, Japanese story version)
-Pokemon (major cuts include Kasumi's swimsuit scene, and the Porygon seizure sequence.  A "view at your own risk" warning would suffice)
-Gundam Wing (subtitled)

What else could use a better translation?  If you're downloading fansubs,    compare them to the licensed US release in terms of what's been edited or changed.

Psst - Transformers is an American line hijacked by Japan!

Somehow, I don't think you're missing much by not watching Dragonball Z in Japanese.

It's actually a lot more exciting when you can only guess what they're saying.

"Holy shit!  Goku's gonna die this time!  For real!"

The theme songs. That's it.

That too.  Having Beavis and Butthead chanting "Dragon! Dragon! heheheh!" just doesn't cut it.

If Beavis and Butthead sang We Gotta Power, that would be pretty awesome.

Gundam Wing is subtitled

Yu-Gi-Oh. The show actually has a fairly compelling story if you read the manga or watch the uncut stuff straight from Japan.

I will blowjob the first distributor who decides it's a good idea to release the first season of the TV series here unedited.

Also, I don't believe that they've released all of Sailor Moon unedited here. I don't even think they're going to go NEAR the Salior Stars storyline.

Gundam Wing is dubtitled.

Nearly all the Gundam dvds released in the US have fucking terrible subtitles. G-Gundam and Zeta Gundam are also dubtitled.

Wow, really?  I'm sorry to hear that... I haven't bought any R1 Gundam DVDs yet because I own the original LDs for most of them (including Zeta and Wing).  Is Gundam Seed also a dubtitle?

Strangely enough no, it's actually been given a proper subtitle job, best job they've done on a Gundam release in quite some time.

Good, because I actually want to buy those disks one of these days.  Thanks.

I'd love to know if there's some validity to the "tomino steps in, tells translator the line from the script is actually NOT WHAT THEY'RE SAYING AT ALL, replaces it" story.

The dub script is very close, but there are some huge obvious things that any non-speaker (such as myself) can pick out and say THAT'S CLEARLY NOT WHAT THEY'RE SAYING.

Dear people-who-know-Japanese: how accurate are the R1 0079 movie scripts?
