In a telephone interview to Chris Guanche of Mecha Anime, Jerry Chu, Marketing Manager for Bandai Entertainment, Inc., announced that Bandai has acquired the franchise rights to the Gundam Series. This includes the new series Gundam SEED Destiny which is currently airing in Japan. In the interview, Mr. Chu stated that "production will begin soon on Gundam SEED DESTINY. That means it痴 licensed." Mr. Chu went on later to say that no air date has been set for the series, but Destiny may be released to DVD befor airing on TV.
Anime bittorrent sites such as Animesuki and Scarywater have already pulled the series from their trackers upon word of the licensing. However, several sites are still releasing episodes raw and subbed.
Bandai cites Gundam SEED's success as the reason for acquiring the rights to Gundam SEED Destiny
Ok, since when did Gundam become successfull in the USA? What ones were, Wing? That's all I can fucking think of.

Yeah, just Wing. The rest have done okay, but not great, by Wing's standard. I think it has a lot to do with most of Wing's audience never having seen a mecha anime, much less any Gundam, before. Nowadays, it isn't so novel.
They've been fairly successful on the DVD-selling front, so I don't see why they wouldn't license Destiny for a video release.

I FUCKING WANT MY GUNDAM X THOUGH. That one is seriously underrated. It's ten times better than wing.

>Ok, since when did Gundam become successfull in the USA?
they watch fansubs also, thats why they are licensing it
so they can make more money on destiny since its too late for seed.... even tho the seed fansubs are what made it popular in the first place etc etc viscious cycle

Actually that would be extremely useful/cool. I'm surprised no one has thought of it, or, at least attempted it.
Gundam, like DBZ, was brought over at least ten years too late. It could have started the US anime boom much earlier, and given fans enough time to catch up on the older series in preparation for the newer ones. Although releasing Gundam Wing and other series on cartoon network as dubbed only deserves a harsh sentence to a lifetime of demon anal rape. CN also cancelled two Gundam series that weren't as popular- MS and 08th.
08th MS team ran to the end. MSG got horrible ratings and was pulled on 9/11, because what better excuse?
And um, do you really expect any network outside of the movie channels and the International Channel to ever regularly air anime subbed and uncut? Get over it and buy the DVDs that have been available for years.

Well, MSG is not available subbed, but that's the fault of the Japanese companies. Anyway, it's hardly a surprise that a 25 year old show didn't blow away the competition... you kind of need it for a good UC base, though... maybe they should have just played the movies...

I waited for YEARS to see Gundam (TOS, 0079) released in the US, and what did they do? They released it dub-only. Whatever. When they decide to release it in a proper fashion, I'll be the first in line to buy it. Meanwhile, I'll keep pining for Victory Gundam.

Gundam SEED is doing very well in Canada at the moment, probably because we have no anime here at all apart from GSeed, .hack//SIGN and Witch Hunter Robin.
Gseed is also pretty much uncut here unlike the Cartoon Network version.

08th team was great. I watched that series 'till it was cancelled, and now i'm buying the DVDs.
MSG, however, was dubbed too horribly for me to enjoy. ;-;
