Anime isn't produced by Christians because there are about as many actual, Bible-thumping, fundamentalist practicing Christians in Japan as there are Eskimos in Mexico.
Stick to Veggie Tales.

This is an incredibly bad idea for a thread, but SuperBook.

The Haunted Junction series pokes fun at various religions, but the writers were completely ignorant about Christianity in general so it's portrayed in a stereotypical way. Meaning quite hilarious, but die-hard Christians may be offended.
Pioneer released a two-disc set of all episodes in Europe and the USA, if you are interested.
There aren't any "christian anime", but if you're looking for values, the Ghibli films are a good place to start.

Is Eva too obvious? I'm guessing that's why it hasn't been mentioned yet.

>>10 Eva uses symbolism and imagery from Christianity and Qabbalistic mysticism but there's nothing especially Christian about the themes or the overall message.

When was the last time you saw an anime with both Christian imagery and Christian themes? In other words, anything that wouldn't give a real priest seizures?

Yeah. Christian imagery and symbolism is the Japanese version of 'Generic Western Occult' themes, just like Westerners would probably use, I dunno, a Buddha/Kwanyin statue, some calligraphied wallscrolls, and paper fans for 'Generic Eastern Occult' themes. Meanwhile, Christianity in Japan hasn't had a very fun history, and a lot of Japanese people carry around a lot of anger for Christianity in general and Catholicism in specific. Hence why every single damn time a organized religion shows up in a RPG they're the bad guys, usually run by psychopathic alien demons.
Yeah... Most of its symbolism- at least except for all the crucifixion that pops up in spades around the end- is taken more from Qabbala/esoteric Judaica than from Christianity... And I seriously doubt any Christian leader would say it exemplifies Christian ideals and theory by any means, heh.
Aside from the aforementioned "Superbook," pretty much never.

How about Trigun? Vash is kind Messianic, and the whole show has a very "turn the other cheek" and "do unto others" etc message. Plus there's Wolfwood.

Not sure what the difference between catholism (?) and christianity is, but Maria-Sama ga Miteru comes to mind

I'd have to say Trigun and Neon Genesis Evangelion seem to have the most references to Christianity in some way.
You've got to be shitting me. I could say a lot of rude things but I'll explain nicely. Catholicism is the "orthodox" Chrisitianity, it's what grew from the early Christians. In Catholicism the Pope is the highest authority on Earth, and Roman Catholics traditionally speak Latin at mass. Not all Christians answer to the Pope, the basis of all Protestant forms of Christianity all go back to Martin Luther 'protesting' the Catholic dogma.
Thanks for explaining it so nicely, and for not saying rude things

Actually, catholicism isn't the only original christianity. They're just the loudest. Nestorians got slaughtered and the eastern orthodox christianity doesn't answer to pope. Rome is only important because Constantine made it so with violence. He was a nestorian, too... many so-called saints would be considered heretics(punishable by death) by the church only a few centuries later, but you don't go revising things if they can hurt you. Revisionism by the church is only done if they can improve their position. Exposing their roots is the LAST thing they want to do. The Nicean councils etc, most people don't even know that these were politically affected gatherings. I feel sorry for Yeshua ben Josef. His philosophy has been abused over and over again...
Traditionally, perhaps, but nowadays, at least in English-speaking countries, Mass is said in the language of the local people. I've never heard of Mass spoken in Latin on a regular basis in this day and age, except maybe when the Pope because he's all about the Latin.
Catholicism is essentially just one sect of Christianity. Passing down the rulership of the church from the apostle Peter, who was the first Pope, the Catholic church has continued from Pope to Pope in this manner. Centuries ago, when the Roman Catholic church was getting pretty corrupt and generally being an inflexible asshat, a number of other Christian churches split off and formed their own sects of Christianity.

The church had trouble actually deciding whether to actually canonize Peter as the first pope - he was a later insertion to the list. He'd never been the leader of the Roman Catholic church(the claim to 25 years at helm in Rome is bullshit), and he was full of shit anyway. He made himself more important than he was, and the church fathers further added to his stature. I feel bad for the heretics.
Christianity, a real mess, amen.
