Character A shifts from stereotype X to stereotype Y (whose characteristics need not concern us) and makes an assumption of his friend, character B (still of stereotype X), representative of stereotype X (which character A is no longer a part of). Deciding how this relates to stereotype Y's views of stereotype X is left as an exercise to the reader.
