"Made in Japan" is a pretty good sign of manufacturing quality. I'd buy more "American" stuff if it was made in Japan instead of China, Hungary, etc. I like China and Hungary just fine, but really, are they knwon for the quality of their manufacturing plants? OTOH, is Japan?
Or did you think there are millions of Japanese people that are happy that Japanese brands are manufacturing stuff in other Asian countries? LOL. Japanese don't even buy rice from Japanese companies if the rice was grown on those companies' own farms located in America, because the climate is different. These people are going to prefer Japanese-made stuff, as most people in the rest of the world also do, especially when it comes to electronics.
As for PS3 vs. 360, bah. If Xbox & Xbox 360 had games for it, it would be worth getting. Or does every internet n00b think every product is popular in Japan by default? Xbox 360 is in thesame position as NEC's PC-FX, as far as Japan is concerned. First thought: "Nice looking toy, not worth owning." The only difference is that with Xbox, there's a second thought as well: "Oh, it's American? Too bad it's not better." There are no flag-waving Japanese intentionally making the Xbox suck in Japan. The Xbox sucks in Japan with no additional community effort required
