Why Wont My HDD Shut Up

Name: VIPPER 2006-05-09 6:36

Hey all.

ive got a Samsung 160Gb/8Mb cache SATAII Harddisc attached to the system in my sig. As nice as it is having this storage, the motor that runs it is a noisy little bugger. through the day this is no issue, because i always have music running. But at night, the noise is not good for sleep.

Ive got the power management in windows set to turn it off in 3 minutes, ive got the swap file put on another disc, ive even set the disc for "optimise for quick removal" in the remove hardware settings. and yet, it wont turn off.

what on earth have i missed

It's eating your mp3s and your internet because the RIAA had its illuminati hand in its design. Quickly, dispose of it before their Gestapo arrive to take you away to their piracy concentration camps in Utah where they chemical castrate you.

It's the FBI scanning for some CP to fap to and there's nothing you can do about it.

lol, op - either defrag reasonably often if you don't already (assuming youre running windows, the standard tool is fine if not a little slow).
if this doesnt solve it and your OS installation is good, ie - no extrainious shit (sp - drunk), and the drive is really grinding, RMA the bitch due to malfunctioning moving parts. better yet, use credit towards a wd or seagate

Hit it on the side with your hand until it stops making a noise. It is probably rusted inside or maybe it has a dust in its tape but you should not open it up yourself it is a difficult job to clean the dust out.
