Doctor Who - The Angels Take Manhattan

Foreword:
These seasons go by way too fast. I'm not counting the christmas special, so after this, I'll have to wait until next year to see more Doctor Who, hoping to catch a few good ones among them.
I'm looking forward to this episode, though, because it features weeping angels and is written by the main writer of the show, so while I don't think that you can really do much with weeping angels that the slender games hasn't done to death already, this episode better be good. Unfortunately I've also read spoilers on Wikipedia, so I also know in advance that this is the last we'll ever see of Amy and Rory, which is strange, because the weeping angels are supposed to be the kind kind of assassins, that only send people back in time, and that's nothing that a time-machine can't fix. They even have a mobile phone to call for help with.
Well, on to watching...


Overall this episode was fantastic. It was moving in terms of shivers and tears, and seeing the tombstone made me scream out loud.

I've come to expect big leaps in-between the main writer and the episodes he gives away to guest writers to write, because all of a sudden Doctor Who has been unwriting himself from history, just like that. It's almost as if I'm watching two different shows.

However, when Rory tries to create a paradox, it feels sudden, like all the options hasn't been considered and exhausted, and there's just no reason why Amy wouldn't die from jumping with him, so she must have jumped due to a broken heart, and during the end of that scene, nobody was watching the giant angel, which is just shown in one single pose.

...but in the end, this episode was beautiful. Naturally, it was beautiful in Steven Moffats emotional way compared to Russel T. Davies thought-out way, but it was beautiful none-the-less.

That has to be the smallest flood in history, but...

there's a lot of logic this season that's pretty flaky, but one of the worst issues is why would time traveling predators decide to take someone who is closely associated with not one, but two notorious time travelers (even if you take the 'deleting yourself from every database' thing with a grain of salt, angels don't seem to be the kind of aliens with databases, and if you were to counter with the crack in reality and them just forgetting him, they still would have had to know about professor song since she is generally acknowledged as the foremost expert on them and i'm gonna take a leap and say after demons run, her lineage should be well enough known (but it's a show about time travel, so i might be wrong)) and then not only zap him, but instead of just putting him into the hotel (which he doesn't leave at all? how does he get food? do they deliver?), they allow him to frolic about and meet up with river who is just fortunately in the middle of being kidnapped by a guy who is gonna send you to where you're going to be spending the rest of you life, and in theory, he's been doing this with EVERYONE who has been zapped back there, which is retarded

Four reasons why the angels took Rory:
1. As you said: Angels don't keep databases, so they don't share communications that well.
2. Rory isn't a notable person. I doubt the angels would keep track of everybody who The Doctor surrounds himself with. The connection to River Song would be even more remote.
3. The angels had guarded Manhattan pretty well against the Tardis.
4. Rory was taken by a cherub, whom I think would be the children of the angels, and therefor less educated on the matter. Rory was just another victim to it.

Yes, it's implied that the angels imprisoned him there (by simply zapping him if he would try to leave) and brought him food.

Yes, now that you mention it, it was really odd that they didn't zap Rory directly to the hotel. Did they know that he would go there eventually? Do they control the area around the hotel as well, and zap anyone who goes the other way?

I'm usually better at catching contradicting things that they say, than what happens over time.

I also read that Moffat put a lot of effort into writing this ending for Amy and Rory, and considering that, it should have been better.

Still, I've seen worse episodes this season.
