Stargate Universe cancelled?

Name: Anonymous 2011-01-01 20:08

The cancellation didnt sit well with fans. no wonder. The show was near-perfect probably the best show of the year and needs to be renewed. But what syfy did was unforgivable. Its now being optioned to Showtime and Starz, not sure who will take it. what do you think? do you want it to continue?

Fuck SyFy i will never watch that shit channel ever again! Stargate Universe kick ass that made the other Stargate shows look like teletubbies.

I like how everyone universally agrees that SGU was utter shit except for the writers themselves and the handful of people who suck their cocks. And yet, faced with pretty much the entire world saying the show is shit, they blame syfy for putting it in the wrong timeslot. Syfy put SGU in the timeslot Warehouse 13 had, which is the highest rated show in the channels history. Obviously, the problem was not with the timeslot.

It's almost a nice show.  I still watch it, but I have to mute it when they put some stupid bullshit moping song at the end.  I'm not a tween girl for christ sake.  I relate more to the two somewhat bland science guys whose names I don't know than Eli.

>>8 is that the night 3 people turn that crappy channel on!

More than the 0 people who watched Stargate Crapiverse!

Name: Anonymous 2011-01-10 5:00

>>11 That still 3million less than the people who downloaded SGU from torrents each week.

Warehouse 13 had more than double SGUs ratings in live viewings, DVR, and illegal downloads. And boasting about torrents is laughable since the networks get $0 money from them thus they mean nothing in a cancellation decision. The only people who watched SGU were people slightly more inclined to click "download" than the average person who has better things to do than waste their live watching shit

>>12 waste their live watching shit.

The only people watching shit are watching Warehouse 13.

You know at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark, when the Ark is stored in a giant government warehouse? That's Warehouse 13

Name: Anonymous 2011-01-12 6:22

Now I can remove SyFy from my list of channels to watch altogether!

Syfy knew full well how hard it would be for even their best shows to go up against the primetime networks in the most competitive day's slot, but they threw Caprica and SGU at it anyway. And they're surprised viewership fell? Even as the critics were coming around and applauding the new season? Everyone stop watching Syfy entirely, still it's good business sense to put the latest version of your biggest franchise up against shows that get over 20million viewers a night? Maybe we can blame the wrestling, That's what dumb people watch right!

Tuesdays were a bad move for SGU and Caprica. The ratings were holding steady (around 1.5) last season (S1.5) for SGU, on Fridays. Then, they bring wrestling and decide to switch SGU. They made a decision and went with it, no problems with that. But why didn't they air the Premieres of Caprica and SGU together, instead of a week apart. Why, when cancelling Caprica, didn't they keep it alongside SGU, so it at least had a lead-out. Why? Why? Why?

>critics were coming around and applauding the new season

Saying "it's less terrible than season 1" is hardly praise.

Name: Anonymous 2011-01-12 17:34

If the show was good people would watch it, regardless of the timeslot. If you're seriously blaming Syfy for not putting it in a timeslot where there is absolutely nothing else on any channel worth watching, you need to take a long hard look at why SGU would need such a dead timeslot to survive in.

I don't care what they show in non=primetime hours, but there are only 21 primetime hours a week.

For the coming week, here's what they are showing

Wed - 2 hours of Ghost Hunters, 1 hour Ghost Hunters International
Thur - 3 hours of Star Trek movies
Fri - 2 hours wrestling, 1 hour of Merlin
Sat - Syfy Original movies (2 hours original dramatic programming)
Sun - previously run movies
Mon - previously run movies and 1 hr of Being Human (1 hour original dramatic programming)
Tue - TNG reruns

So, over the next week of Syfy primetime, they are airing 3 hours of original dramatic programming. So, I don't know how to answer your question since they currently only have 1 hour of (what I consider potentially a good show - their movies suck) good programming. I'd be happy if they could show wrestling (or other reality crap) 5 nights a week to show 3 new shows 2 nights a week. The problem is that they don't actually use that extra income to support the good shows anyway.

But in the case of SGU is merely an example, Science Fiction shows are generally more DVRed and watched online, Without measuring the online views in the same system, online advertising will never get the money it deserves to support shows that are watched by early adopters - like most science fiction shows, If Hulu, iTunes, OnDemand, and Torrent views brought in the same amount of money as the TV ads, then I don't think that SGU would have been cancelled.

If Stargate Universe does get cancelled I will never watch another Stargate show or movie again!
