Wasn't there supposed to be a live action Eva movie supposed to be made? I only remember the concept art being made, including a black haired Rei.

It's going to be as lame as the anime.

WETA was doing some concept art, which made people get their hopes up, but let's face it, 99% of movie projects based on anime will never even get to the pre-production stage, and the EVA movie is one of them.
Hell, I'm wondering what's going on with James Cameron's Gunnm/Battle Angel Alita movie he so badly wanted to make.

Nothing's moving forward. All that's going on is a lot of talking, and they've been doing that for how many years now? WETA guys might be doodling concept art still, but it means absolutely nothing in real-world Hollywood standards.
Call me back when they have a studio, distributor, director, and a cast.

It, along with all anime movie properties, will begin production when Hollywood has officially sucked the comic book movie resources dry. In other words, give it about 5 years or so.

hi guys. i know that people in hollywood make movies by pitching scripts but we at adv have a different, more modern approach.
we (adv) beg YOU (j. random hollywood investor) for hundreds of millions of dollars. you will give them to us on total blind faith that this extremely expensive, limited-appeal movie (this fucking trilogy, for christ's sake) based on a cult japanese cartoon will make you back your HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS.
eva is big and all, but do you really think it would turn in the kind of money something like pirates does? can you really see your mom, dad and little brother going to the movies to watch shinji-kun's adventures?

They will if Ben Stiller or Adam Sandler are cast as Shinji-kun!

I really hope they change the storyline enough for Shinji to die if either of those two are cast. Come to think of it, it probably isn't beyond hollywood to cast 40-somethings as children.

In case we've forgotten, Eva is like 10 years old.

It would be like "EL Chavo del 8". A mexican show where some adults played as kids.
I`ve also heard two rumors about directors, one was Peter Jackson, who apparently is an Evangelion fan (but has other movies in production up until something like 2008) and then the Wachowski Brothers were also approached about making the film, but as of yet there is no actual director chosen for it.
Other rumors involving who might be in it, actually Robin Williams said he would like to be involved (Seriously, Robin Williams as Gendo... wtf?) but he's a huge Evangelion fan, in fact if you watch One Hour Photo, one of the toys his character shows the kid in the movie is the MP Eva Unit. That was actually one of RW's own toys, in fact he owns the entire set...
