As if the film hasn't gotten enough attention on /v/...but I'd like to have some sort of permanent thread for discussions and updates leading up to and after the film's debut. First things first, if you've been out of the loop these past three or four months, you've missed quite a lot. You can catch up here: http://silenthillforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=23235
So what's everyone's outlook so far on it? From reading the interviews with Gans and Avary, the whole crew seems very intimately committed (to an unhealthy degree in the case of Gans) to making sure this is not only a top-notch adaptation of the series, but a solid film on its own. I really wish we could get a hold of the WonderCon footage, though.

World4ch is a ghost town dude, don't expect more than a reply a day.

Well, I see threads get bumped with new posts on a daily basis. I just thought that it was a lack of interest in the movie.
It seems we'll never have a popular widespread 2ch type of BBS as long as 4chan's image boards keep drawing the interesting discussions away (rare as they are among all the shit-flinging trolls and flame wars).

The past saturday I saw the trailer in a videogame tv show in my country. It looks cool to me but i think it will be somehow disappointing.

I saw the trailer a few weeks ago. It was nothing short of amazing. Plus, Sean Bean is in it, and he is always cool.

Why did they change so many names around? "Midwich Elementary"? They fucked up all the fonts on the buildings too.
What a stupid thing to do. Totally unnecessary. It's almost like they did it to spite the fans. It makes it look very fake.

saw it. decent, to say the very least.
i love the music, but it was at nearly every fucking scene. could've had better scripting ...a lot better, but as far as a film based on a video game, this ranks pretty high.
pacing would've worked better it was done in the same vain as Jacob's Latter (wasn't Silent Hill basically based off this film anyway?).
tl;dr clear flaws, but could've been a lot worse

Prtty, yes. But empty underneath. Too much blood, a somewhat convoluted plot. An ending that not only doesn't give closure, but makes sure to prevent any rational excuse for a sequel. Its kind of sad, but at the same time, its great to WATCH this movie. I wish they'd have stayed a little more true to the first game's plot and not changed it around so much. Left some of the Alessa stuff out, saved it for a sequel. They gave away too much at the end of the movie. No, scratch that. The first half was AWESOME. The second half of the movie? Horrid.

Am I the only one who did not find this movie to be gory at all?
The one chick gets ripped up by PH, and there's the barbed wire fuckfrenzy at the end, and that's *it*. If there were any other scenes they were so minimal that they didn't register with me.
I haven't seen many horror movies and consider myself sqeamish. However not at one single time watching the film did I ever feel scared, grossed out, or nauseated at the on-screen carnage.
Honestly Dawn of the Dead had more gore than this film, and it's pretty tame.

Oh yeah, the kid was cute but couldn't act for shit. Plus the husband (who the scriptwriter admitted was a tacked-on thing) was a good actor, but all his parts seemed like an afterthought. Which they were. He should have been swinging a pipe and busting up mannequins in the streets!

A pattern is forming...
Both Resident Evil movies never lived up to Night of the Living Dead or any of its sequels and remakes. House of the Dead had more gore, but ultimately failed. Jacob's Ladder did a better film treatment of Silent Hill games, than the Silent Hill movie ever did.
Is the movie-inpired-game-turned-movie doomed?

Phantoms + Jacobs's ladder = Silent Hill

The gore was there, it was just cheap as fuck. When the "barbed-wire fuckfest" began I expected to see all sorts of bones and organs flying about, hearts being splattered on the walls, lungs and kidneys slipped on by the stupid Puritans, prolapsed, disembodied anuses being fucked by sexy PH. But no. Even when the Borg Queen got the raped up the vag by Alessa, she only exploaded like a plastic bag full of red food coloring.
But...all in all I didn't really care how bad it was because by the end I was rounding 2nd base with my girlfriend. Back to you in the studio, Anonymous.

I liked the movie, if purly for the cinimatography and audio. The dialogue was a bit... shifty (They say this place is haunted, I think they are right). The plot left off without any explanation (Did the die? If so, why no body found in the car?), but tis ok.
And yeah, the gore, while it was a lot, I think I've been desensitized. I thought Starship Troopers was worse than this movie in that department.
