I don't get Futurama. It's a bunch of moderately fun jokes combined with endless talk of suicide and depression. Just isn't funny unless you are emo or easily amused.

I disagree, but dont care enough to come up with a counter-argument

I can count the number of suicide jokes in the entire series of Futurama on one hand.
I was watching a couple of episodes of Futurama on youtube after not seeing it so for so long.
I don't really get why it got canned, it was a pretty good show from what I recall and the few episodes I saw yesterday (Fry's dog and Bother with clover, really sad episodes).
As on the DVDs, I heard that it's been confirmed by staff, though not fox.

Because FOX has a firm policy of cancelling shows that people actually like.
Just not enough people liked it. As far as I was aware, it really had no competition for ratings and still most likely bombed. Besides techies, I have not meet any Futurama fans.

"Since there are over 99 million households with TVs in the U.S., it might seem that a sample of 5,000 is just not big enough to represent the nation.
Actually, a representative sample doesn't have to be very large to represent the population it is drawn from. For example, you don't need to eat an entire pot of vegetable soup to know what kind of soup it is. A cup of soup is more than adequate to represent what is in the pot. If, however, you don't stir the soup to make sure that all of the various ingredients have a good chance of ending up in the cup, you might just pour a cup of vegetable broth. Stirring the soup is a way to make sure that the sample you draw represents all the different parts of what is in the pot."
Is there anyone with a firm grasp of statistics who can support or condemn this view?

Is there no one who has knowledge?

For statistics to work, it has to be from random pool.

Statistics are all bullshit. Anyone with a working knowledge of statistics can get the general populous to buy whatever bullshit they're trying to sell.
