asian movie i'm looking for

just wondering if anyone could help me out as there's this films title thats been aluding me. the story is about 4 kids who live together in an apartment with only their mother to take care of them. they have no contact with the outside world and thus live a happy solitude life untill one day the mother leaves and never returns. slowly the kids relize they have to depend on themselves and now must venture into the outside world. claimed to be based on a true story.

so anyone remember what i'm talking about? it galls me that i remember the plot synopis on the back, i remember the front cover picture but i cant rmemeber the name

ah thanks. now that i finally got that off my chest i ask: is the movie worth watching XD (would really annoy me if after all this time of trying to remember the name it turns out the movie blows)

I'm curious as to what actually happened in reality. I've heard that the real story of "the four abandoned children of Nishi-Sugamo" is even darker and sadder than the film portrayal.

So... Can anyone hear please tell me the real story, or direct me to a webpage where I can find the original news story? (um... preferably in English, as I can't read Japanese) Thanks a lot!
