I dislike films.

They're either too long or boring or they just suck, and I don't like them. I dunno, what do you suggest to change this feeling towards films?

i feel the same way, except i KNOW there are good movies out there, except finding them is incredibly hard because all the "professionals" have a taste for bore.

Have you seen Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Pulp Fiction, Requiem for a Dream, Fargo, American History X, 21 Grams, American Psycho, Memento, City of God? I don't recommend movies lightly, and you should try one of these films if you've been getting bored by the same old garbage they've been releasing.

It's not your fault. Most of the movies that come out now are pure crap. And movie theaters are puzzled as to why their revenue is declining..?
So I recommend watching either foreign films or old ones. For example, Cool Hand Luke, It's a Wonderful Life, and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly are timeless classics.
Also, if you watch the top 10 or 20 films on imdb you won't be disappointed.

There are lots of different films to cater to all tastes. I am sure the film for you is out there, the real question is can you be arsed to find it?

Yeah most of the movies suck! But that applies to everything, scumbags!

Name: Anonymous 2005-10-24 14:58

I thought of another reason why most movies suck. You know the law that says 90% of everything is crap? 90% of moviegoers are crap, too. (i.e. they have no taste and can't tell good movies from bad.)

Name: Anonymous 2005-10-30 8:25

Is 90% of the quote "90% of everything is crap" crap?

A big problem with movies is the reduction of genres and the publics reduction to seek out those types of movies. Usually, time period movies do well because lots of people enjoy history or some aspect of history. Not that all period peices are well done though. Also, certain novel adaptations can do well. Rarely do you see a single genre movie. Its usually a almagamation of a few genres where the studios are trying to capture a wide audience base. When was the last time there was just a romance movie out, not a romance-comedy. Political thrillers like 'The Sum of All Fears' are rare but have proven a sucessful recipe. Even in the 70's political thrillers like 'Three Days of the Condor' or 'Day of the Jackle' are still extremly entertaining to watch. They arn't filled with explosions or other hollywood stunts like multiple flipping car chase scenes. They rely on simple tension to engage the viewer. To the first poster. If you think movies are too long or boring, try looking up some older movies like the ones i mentioned. There is still good cinema out there, you just have to wade through the crappy American Epics(Pearl Harbor,The Alamo, anything with Kevin Costner) and the SNL-skit-movies and you'll be fine.

Today, as always, the majority of movies are made to satisfy and entertain the general public.  Movies are generally predictable because it makes people feel smart when they guess what happens next.  Truly great films have become a rarity, as Studios are becoming more and more concentrated on the cash, and less on the art of filmmaking.  This is where indie films get the upperhand.  Some of my favorites...both indie and studio made...

-Memento
-Fight Club
-Hero    (100% breathtaking cinematography)
-American Psycho
-The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou
-The Royal Tennenbaums
-Bottle Rocket
-Rushmore         (I love Wes Anderson's work...)
-Walk the Line
-Donnie Darko
-I <3 Huckabees
-Citizen Kane
