Anti-Movies: Stick with the source material

Name: Anonymous 2005-03-26 12:32

What movies based off of novels, comics, games, etc would you recommend someone to STAY AWAY FROM, and hunt down the original work instead?  For example, "Read Hellblazer, don't watch Constantine" or "Read dark Horse's Mask, don't watch Son of the Mask."  What recommendations would you give?

The Great Gatsby, like most Lost Generation literature, is overrated.  The movie, which was supposed to be highly influential , influence fashion, and revive the jazz age in the 70s, was also a dud.

Even The Green Mile and The Shining?

Name: Anonymous 2005-06-26 17:04

The Green Mile was actually pretty damn good.... provided you hadn't expected it to remain too true to the book. There's a lot of differences, but the film is still remarkably good.

Essentially any of the comic book movies aside from Spiderman or X-Men. Realize as well that comics tend to suck anyways, although they were decent for their time.

YOU FUCKING LIE.  I mean truth.

The Passion of the Christ, though I really don't reccomend the book, either.
The Shining movie by Kubrick was amazing, but I love Kubrick movies.
With Sin City, you could go either way, it's pretty much the same.
