Why should you watch anything?

TV shows are designed to draw viewers in every week to catch the latest episode.  In the case of shows with an actual plot, wouldn't it be better to have the entire series on DVD rather than in long drawn out chapters interrupted by commercial breaks and season breaks?  Shouldn't you get the entire viewing experience rather than being subject to real life schedules and missing an episode?

And what if it gets cancelled?  Then you're screwed for following along to twenty episodes out of a planned twenty five, and you'll never get any resolution, ever!  You'll just sit there, cursing FOX for the rest of your days.  And you wouldn't want that.

Weird to think this thread was created before Heroes or Dexter premiered.  Hell before even Grey's Anatomy premiered, and that's about to start its 8th season.

But if you own the entire show on DVD or Blu-Ray then where does the hype and suspense come into play?
