Japanese drama shows

Ocassionally I'll pass by a station that shows a Japanese drama, samurai epic, or yakuza soap opera.  Since I have no idea what any are called, which ones or popular, or what are considered the best or classics, are there any recommendations or further information?

"Winter Sonata" is not a Japanese drama.
It is Korean drama.D'ont mistake it!OK?

Yeah, how do you confuse Japan and Korea. That's like confusing capitalism and communism.

I wish I could find the original Koukou Kyoushi to download. I tried downloading the first episode from d-addicts but after a total of around a month of being connected to the torrent I only got up to about 90% -_-

Winter Sonata is nice. Although yes, not Japanese.
I rented the DVDs from Scarecrow Video in Seattle but unfortunately wasn't able to finish it.

I am posting in this thread to say that Densha Otoko is awesome

Wow, where to start, Great Teacher Onizuka, Gokusen, Kou Kou Kyoushi, Strawberry on the Shortcake, Fordidden Love, Summer Snow. All of them are great IMO. KKK is a little darker, like Seija no Koushin and Aoi Tori- Aoi Tori is considered a classic. But if you want to just start off, you can't go wrong with Summer Snow, or GTO. Newest big hit I see is Densha Otoko (summer 2005). Up to episode 2 in japan, and both episodes are english-subbed.

Ok, I might be looking too deep into it.  But on the episode with Hermes stalker... Episode 5.
Does the entire stalker remind you of the stalker in the anime Perfect Blue?  I think it might be a reference to that.. or I might be looking too deep into it.

I am Japanese. Now, in Japan these dramas are popular:

"Jouou no kyoushitsu"(the classroom of queen)
"densha otoko"(the train man)
"Yoshitsune"
"dragon zakura"(dragon cherry)
"fuyu no sonata"(sonata in winter) *made in Korea

If you can, please watch those. And please write down about your
opinions or thoughts for those dramas. I want to know how American people think about those dramas.

In this connection, these are popluar: "24", "the ehitehouse", "X-files", "Arry my love", and "ER" etc.

Hello Hollety.

I like Densha Otoko and Jouou no Kyoushitsu.
The teacher is very cruel but it is a nice drama.
Also Densha Otoko is funny. And the romance story is nice.

At the moment I'm loving Densha Otoko so much! At 1st it was because I'm a big geek. I was all, "Oh I have that same Haro!" I liked getting the glimp of akibahara. I've always wondered what it looked like. The show also hasa a lot of funny parts. I've been laughing out loud a lot.

I didn't know there was a Gokusen II! I loved the first series.

An older show that I really like is Long Vacation.
