Just saw Hero

Thought it was okay.  Beautifully made and shot, but the narrative was rather weak, at least until the end.  I honestly thought of a porn film: whereas a porno is written to create as many possible opportunities for some combination of the cast to have sex, it felt like this movie was written to create as many possible opportunities for some combination of the cast to fight.

<spoilers begin now>

The one duel between Nameless and Snow (in front of the soldiers) was repeated three times, each time under different circumstances, and in a different color scheme.  What's more, Snow stabs Broken Sword four times (twice lethally, twice non-lethally), each time for radically different reasons and in different places.

<end spoilers>

But one thing bugged me.  At the very end of the movie when the soldiers are marching, they chant out something that sounds like "Savo!/Sabo!".  The subtitles don't say what it means.  Now, earlier in the movie, another army chants, and its translated as "Storm!"  However, while I can't be sure, I don't think its the same word.  Does anyone else know what this means?

the last chant was "Execute him" or something to that extent, "Sa" means kill.

hero is a supremely telling example of the motives behind internal chinese propaganda

psychological control by mass media suggestion.. as usual, but the message conveyed is what one must analyze

the message of the movie was to sacrifice a unique superior individual for the good of the larger masses(in real terms: sacrifice yourself for the old power structure status quo to prevent chaos and a weakness of absolutist chinese unity)

if the prevailing message fed into chinese mass media was to applaud the individual for his achievements above the complacent masses.... china would eventually bring about the attitude that would lead to mass revolution in the streets

the current chinese power structure knows they can't indefinitely maintain such criminally disproportionate power over the billions of chinese individuals.... china will have its revolution, an equilibrium will be found.. a "soft-landing" or a "hard-landing" is the real question

but for now its all growth and happy days for china's ruling class, they are making a figurative "run for the money"....
