I just watched 解夏 (gege). I love a good tear jerker every once in a while. Plus the R2 dvd had english subs.
Any other good movies from the past few years? You know stuff off the beaten path.

Well the last few movies other than Casshern and Cutie Honey I've seen are the 2 The Grudge movies, and the 2 Onmyoji movies, which I LOVE TO DEATH! Onmyoji 1 has a state side dvd release, and 2 is scheduled sometime this year.

From the box art the Onmyoji movies looked like period horror pieces. Is that about right? >>3
Whats it like?

If you've seen Otogizoushi you might know about Seimei, Onmyoji is about him, and one of the members of the Minamoto family, with a bit of magic. Don't judge a book by its cover :Phttp://imdb.com/title/tt0355857/usercomments

I wholeheartedly reccomend Koi no Mon (aka Otakus In Love) to everyone here. It feels like a live action combination of Genshiken and Comic Party, except funnier than both put together (and that's pretty fucking funny), featuring loads of incredily nerdy jokes and cameo appearances from Hideaki Anno, Takeshi Miike and Sambo Master.

I saw it at the Leeds film festival. I forget exactly what Anno did; I think he played a club owner or something. Just a one-line part but... fun.

In the film, Hideaki Anno kills off all the other characters in a mean-spirited fashion for no reason, then scatters the script around the floor and takes a dump on it.

Hideki Anno sucks. His movies are like pretenious livejournal threads. I don't want to see that... I want stuff with good stories and drama... comedy... ACTION!

Love and Pop is a captivating little film that deserves to be discovered by an open-minded audience.

Some of Hideki Anno's stuff is very good, but a lot of people still hate him for taking the wonderful background, premise, and characters of Evangelion and then just derailing the series around Episode 23, turning it into what some critics called "Hideki Anno's public couch trip." Up to that point it was interesting, and then it went spiraling down into the Black Pit of WTF. And "End of Evangelion" was his angry response to all the "WTF did you do that for?" letters he got for it.
