I have a huge AV fan. Well he starts off not interested, but after a while he gets warmed up to the idea... then its off to the races. All of a sudden he's not so interested any more.

HEY Spring of Trivia
And that one episode of SNL where Chris Farrley is a tourist in Japan, and accidently becomes part of a cruel TV show.

Takeshi's Castle (MXC) was so awesome, we need an american style version of this show to laugh and abuse contestants.

yeah I'd rather see takeshi's Castle than MXC, They ruin it in a way by not showing the "real" show
Guy le dooche still makes me laugh tho

They really need to show the cut parts Takeshi's Castle. Something like a "lost levels" edition.

I love Matthew's Best Hit! TV, it's a very funny show about popular music, with artists as guests. Matthew asks weird questions, they watch and comment PVs, and usually there's some kind of competition too.

I have heard from a friend that it is a very funny program, but I have not seen it myself yet. You can probably download uncensored episodes on the internet.

When I spent a week in Tokyo, I had terrible jet lag for the first few days and was waking up at 2am. TV sucks at 2am there just as much as it does here.
Although, it was funny to see some piece of crap Troma film about this wimpy black kid with magic hairgel that would transform him into a Jimi Hendrex style superhero with a spell-casting guitar, all dubbed pretty well into Japanese.

I have no idea what it's called, since I only saw one (two?) episode of this show while in Japan (Shinagawa!) for the weekend, but it's a reality-show that follows 4 big tough guys and their wacky hijinks. I didn't understand a single word, but it was damn hilarious. This one episode involved their quest to find food for a picnic or something. And they went around getting vegetables and meat. For the meat, their friend (a non-Japanese who spoke really good Japanese) took them to a skating rink and they had to compete with a curling team to win meat.

I know the Japanese are quite fond of South Park actually. It's on WOWOWOW satellite.

On-Air Battle is usually dire but occasionally mighty. The acoustic guitar band contest they had in March was awesome, and I have a shiny new penny here for anyone who finds me an MP3 of the runners-up.
Japanese dramas are hilarious if you don't speak any Japanese. I'm sure if you do speak Japanese they're just bad. Fun fact; they were filming some J-drama like TEN YARDS from my girlfriend's front door not too long ago. This angry woman was pushing a buggy and shouting at a man in a coat who, judging by his way of speaking and overall presense, must have been a detective. I never did find out what show it was. But it was still pretty cool, even if they did stop me getting into her house for about ten minutes when I really, really needed to pee. So.

Been watching Wakaba (http://www.jdorama.com/drama.882.htm for the uninitiated). However if Hikaru doesn't get his shit together and get over his fear of earthquakes and visit her in Kobe, I'll have a fit. It's a good show but they really drag out the character's problems instead of getting them resolved. (e.g. Wakaba taking crap from everyone at her job, only now does she have fatigue and you know she'll bitch at them eventually, but it should had happened several eps. ago)

I just watch Densha Otoko today. It's as disturbing as it is funny. Those otaku mannerisms were kinda... scary. To think an otaku can pull a 27-36K job, so that's how they buy their stuff. But Densha Otoko falls under drama. Anyway, anyone who likes #-ch boards would probably find it entertaining.

I watch Hello Morning
but agree, I'd rather watch T.C. then MXC. I cant watch MXC anymore cause I just get upset at there lame comments and how they think they needed to rename everyone/everything.
It would have been much better if they translated it like they did with Iron Chef. They used some really good voice actors there.
Japan TV is fairly fucktarded. Japanese satellite is diabolical and not worth it ={

I like to watch that show with the man in a big dog suit, a flying cloud, and a bunch of little Japanese children learning how to use the toilet.

That show's awesome. I saw it a few times when I was in Kyoto.
I too watch Helo Morning, but recently it's taken a turn for the worse. They used to have fun with physical events and allthe girls would compete, but lately they have really over used the whole "Magic Restraunte" segment and it's not keepingme as entertained. Are there gameshows with a more physical competition theme? If so, where could I get my hands on them.

Anybody else here watched 'Taiho Shichauzo'? Sure it's got hotties Itoh Misaki and Hara Sachie, but seriously! THEY BEAT UP 10 ARMED GUYS, DIFFUSED 2 BOMBS WITHOUT EQUIPMENT, BEAT UP 5 MORE GUYS, AND TOOK ON CORRUPTION IN THE GOVERNMENT, WITHOUT BREAKING A SINGLE NAIL! My eyes rolled up so many times, I think one of them got stuck.
Otoha as Yoriko is the real jem here. Also Watanabe Eriko is very funny.
Mecha Mecha Ikiteru is my fave Jap comedy group. You can get weekly torrents over at jpopsuki. You dont really have to understand japanese to get into the visual comedy style:) Utaban, a jap talk show is pretty cool, but more jap language intensive. TV Champion is good, depending on the subject matter. Hey Hey hey Music Champ is entertaining for a talk and jpop music show, and the hosts of that show used to have a regular comedy show, part of a comedy group called 'Downtown'. That was some funny stuff. Anyway, thats my reccomedations

Mecha Mecha Iketeru is funny as hell. Only in Japan will they make a show where guys dressed up as bikers play word games, and the loser has to get his ass kicked by sumo wrestlers.
